Before LO was born my husband and I didn't share our baby's name or any of the names we considered... with two exceptions. I read that our baby's name sounded like something bad in another language so I asked a high school friend, and native speaker, her opinion of the potential conflict. I also told our doula at our last pre-natal appointment. It felt so strange to say it.
Any one else make exceptions to their "no sharing" policy?

I shared with my BFF who was 3 weeks ahead of me (so as to not have overlapping names) and my sister who I've never been able to keep a secret from.

We didn't choose a name until he was born (in big part because we were TG) but we didn't even tell anyone any of the names on our short lists. Whenever anyone would ask I would tell them I was going to name the babe after them. For example, I got asked most often by my stepmother Connie. So when she'd ask (for the hundredth time, even though I told her we were still undecided), I'd say "Well, we were thinking Connie if it's a girl and Jon (my dad) if it's a boy".

We didn't tell anyone at all. I don't think I even shared our final decision on HB until he was born!

Well I've asked HB gold for opinions on our girl's name choices and my family and some friends know. Our family and some friends know our boy's name choice. I'm more comfortable sharing our boy's name choice than our girl's choices.

We aren't sharing, but I may have secretly told my sister the girl name we are sure of. We still aren't sure of the boy name (team green) but have a front runner and haven't told a soul.
I actually would, but DH wants to keep them a secret and since I got my way with being team green, he can have his way on this one.

We told everyone. Her name is a little out of the box and we enjoyed people's reactions. Better to get all the jokes out early.

With our last, we didn't even really have a name until the birth - okay, we had a girl name that I loved (and told people if they asked) but no boy name so when he came out a boy (we were TG) ... we didn't have a name. Our daughter technically named him after he was born. We just happened to agree that the name she picked fit

Only me, DH and my sister know. (Echoing prior comment, I wouldn't be able to keep anything from my sister.) When anyone asks, I just tell them that I'm waiting for a good counter-offer from DH!

We are telling some people our name ideas (and are choosing at birth) but that's mostly just my husband's coworkers, and my internet friends, haha. Maybe a few best friends, or a relative or two. We really want it to be a surprise though for what we choose. Mostly we are not telling JUDGMENTAL friends/relatives!

@mediagirl: That's why we chose to keep ours a secret too! Not really because we care about hearing anyone's opinions on it but because we love the surprise aspect

I have a very opinionated mother, and so in order to keep it from her, we had to keep it from everyone. the only two people who knew were my brother and SIL. The name is gender neutral, and they got a girl dog...they were going to name her our son's name! I called him and just asked that he refrain from naming her that, and he figured out why. They didn't say a word though! And it was a lot of fun to announce it once he was here!

I told anyone that asked. We were really confident with the name and I didn't particularly care what anyone else thought. It really helped me to make the whole baby concept more real to be able to call him by name.

Not pregnant yet, but only my husband and I will know the name before LO is born. The names we're considering are all relatively normal names, so I won't need to check to make sure if they sound wrong in another language or anything.

We didn't tell anyone! I didn't even tell HB! We liked having something for just DH and I to share, and it was nice to be able to surprise everyone after she was born! We will do the same next time

with #1 we told everyone once we had decided on a name. this time we aren't sharing, although i've shared our contenders with a few online friends 
we have decided we want to let DS meet his sister and hear her name first, then announce to everyone else.

We aren't telling anyone. I know myself and once I told one person, it would be a slippery slope.
