Option 2 for me. I forgot about the crib mattress and just bought the one that was most recommended by where we bought the furniture. We have the dual sided Moonlight Slumber and are very happy with it.

I did research. If you get a convertible crib than a child could be sleeping on that mattress for 3-4 years. It is important that a child of this age has a good mattress as it's one of the largest growth times for the child.

I did research. I wanted a high quality mattress that was firm. The mattress we have is firmer on one side for babies and then you can flip it over to a softer side for when they are toddlers.

I researched, then I just bought whatever, hahaha. We found an inexpensive Ikea-type crib that came with mattress and it was good enough for me.

i did do some research. and i found that i liked the dual firmness option - so they could use it as a toddler. that's also why i'm looking at convertible cribs.
