I have strips over my incision and my OB said I could take the strips off a few days after leaving the hospital. But I'm a little scared to take them off myself. Its been 6 days since I had the c-section. If you took you strips off yourself how long after surgery did u wait and any advice?

I took mine off maybe a week out from the hospital? So 2 weeks after the operation. I just let them start to peel off themselves after repeatedly getting wet and soapy in the shower. Then I helped them along.

Mine came off almost immediately due to some weeping on one part of my incision. After trying repeatedly to keep them on (new ones daily), my doctor told me to give up.

I just let them come off on their own. I was told not to pull them off and that they would do so when they were ready. Once one end came off, then I would take the other off. It only took a few weeks before they were all gone.

I was told to leave them until they fall off. I'm going on 2 weeks now and they're still there. I have my checkup on Tuesday, so I'll see what my midwife says then.

I'm a nurse, and I always tell my patients to wait until they fall off on their own - don't want to open the incision by accident!
That being said, I was a terrible patient for my surgery a few years ago and ended up picking off my dermabond (medical glue) on my own and now I have a bigger scar! That's what I get for not practicing what I preach! Lol

I take them off for patients in our office (orthopedic surgery not obstetric). Make sure you wait as long as your doctor recommended. For small surgeries, we take them off after only 2 days, for bigger incisions we wait longer. Just make sure you wait as long as your doc recommended.
Taking them off yourself after that point is no big deal. You can always buy little butterfly stickers at a pharmacy if you freak out and feel like you took them off too early. You can pretty much tell if the wound looks closed or not.

I let mine fall off on their own.

My doctor took mine off. My incision got infected, and the steri strips were holding it in, so they had to come off.

doc removed staples the day i got discharged. he said to take off the tape thingamajigs 5-7 days later. i waited the full week. and took them off. i hadn't even looked down there the whole time since i didn't want to see the damage. but it wasn't so bad.
