We didn't tell anyone we were ttc and only told family/close friends when I was 12wks pregnant. Everyone else found out at 15wks.

We've told some friends and family, not a lot but some! I'm a worry talker though. I like being able to bounce the crazy off of others and get their advice/opinions.

We didn't tell a single person. Our close friends and family didn't even know we were pregnant until about 11 weeks. We just like to keep it private and honestly, we hate anything that draws attention to us so we hate making things a big deal. Of course it IS a big deal but we would rather just kind of shrug it off and be excited together.

We didn't tell anyone. My mom & MIL knew that I'd had Mirena taken out but our parents were still surprised (& excited!) when we told them the news. None of our friends knew we were ttc.

I am not a teller (in general, not just TTC). I handle things best without people asking about it and offering unwanted advice - to me that is more painful than the potential support people give. of course that does not apply to hellobee

I think it is very personal though what works for you. I am very close to my mom but we wouldn't always make the same choices on timing, etc and for me it's easier to tell when the news is happy and no longer up for debate. similarly we didn't tell anyone LO's name until she was here.

with LO we told immediate family at 9 weeks after we'd seen the heartbeat twice (I have recurrent early miscarriages so wasn't telling until the odds were in my favor). at that point I did think I would benefit from support if things went south. everyone else found out after we passed the NT screening.

In real life, I told @HLK. That's it!

My close friends knew. But the cat was out of the bag after my first m/c. I'm pretty open with my friends when we'll start trying for a second. We're all at that stage where we're talking kid spacing and what's tough about what age, etc.

For the most part, no. At least not initially. Now that its been 10 months, some friends know we're at least trying. DHs family knows, mine don't. We won't tell until we're 12 weeks either.

@bhbee: I like how you put this. I'm not a teller either We didn't tell anyone and people were happily surprised. My sister even asked if we got pregnant on purpose. Um, yes. They were all thrilled for us though!

I did, and I wish we kept it to ourselves because it's such a personal thing.

We did not tell a soul. For us, it would have just invited intrusive comments and questions.

We're not just yet, but we don't plan to tell anyone. Well, anyone else. I've told one of our closest friends that we're thinking about it, because he and I are considering forming a business, but nobody else.

I feel all over the place about this. My sweetie and are aren't trying yet, but, probably will be soon.

For a long time, I was childfree -- and obnoxiously un-shy about sharing it. Then I had an abrupt, 180º shift in my desires. I talked about it with some people, but, not too many. Experiencing this radical, fast, unexpected shift in my wants and identity felt really personal. I was also afraid of all the people who famously like to tell childfree people that they'll change their mind one day would all show up and point fingers.

On the other hand, if I'm too secretive about TTC or at least someday planning to TTC, I'm nervous that people will think any pregnancies are unplanned and very unwelcome accidents. I'd find it hard to cope with those kinds of assumptions -- especially since I'm a women's health nurse.

@lilyofthewest: complete and utter shock! They'll be over the moon excited, but jaw dropping. Everyone knows I absolutely am not a fan of kids. Just not other peoples kids.

I should add I'm not concerned about people's judgments. We have to do what's right for us as a couple, and even though I initially said I'm never never ever am having kids, I've had a change of heart. We want to raise a family, and there is nothing wrong with that. Don't feel embarrassed or anxiety at all!

I'm really private, and I've only told one person. My husband mentioned to his parents several months ago when we first started trying that we were thinking about it. But nothing definite, just so they'd be aware. I don't think my parents will be that pleased, so I'll wait until I get a BFP (fingers crossed) and then at least am 12 weeks along. Anyway, the one person I've told is my best friend who lives in another country. She's TTC too, so she understands, and can be supportive. Anyway, that's part of the reason I joined here...somewhere to read/talk about TTC since I don't do it a lot in real life.

I wanted to be able to surprise people with the big news, but I found that I needed more support than I originally anticipated. So far everyone I've told has been understanding and no one has said anything insensitive.

At first, no. I even feigned disinterest if anyone talked about babies lol. I didn't want anyone to be asking me how it's going or anything.

Now that I'm 10 months in to TTC, I've started to open up a bit to a few people.
