DH's was. That's why he's an emergency c-section baby. They were in such a rush to get him out that they cut what they thought was his butt when they were going in. But it was actually his face. I like to call him butt face for this reason.

My son's cord was around his neck. It caused some scary heart rate decelerations during the pushing phase. They slipped it off of his neck as he was coming out though. The more I mention it to people the more I find how common it is, although the statistic I'd heard was 25% of babies, with only 10% of THOSE being an issue. Don't stress, it's nothing you can control, and it will be dealt with when/if it happens!

Not me, but one of my close friends just had a baby a couple days ago and have a vaginal birth and the cord was wrapped around the baby's neck and everything has been perfectly fine.

DD was around her neck and tied in a knot. I had a scheduled c section and the doctor said it was a good thing especially because of the knot. I told them I wasn't surprised she was bit of an acrobat in my belly

This is probably a totally dumb thing to ask but…couldn’t doctors tell whether or not the cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck in an U/S? I know that they don’t normally do U/S that late (unless there are other issues) but does the size of the baby block them from seeing that or something? I’ve never heard of anyone finding out a cord being wrapped around a baby’s neck via U/S and I’ve always been curious as to whether it’s even possible…

@Andrea: That’s why I figured that I’d never heard of people finding out that way. The only people who I’ve heard of having U/S that late are having them for other issues….cord flow, pre-e, etc.

My friend had the cord wrapped three times around her son's neck! He came out and the doctor said "wow its wrapped around the neck. Oh, it wrapped twice. Holy sh#$! It's three times! Her son was fine was the cord was unwrapped.

My friend's baby had a cord wrapped around his neck. He was tiny about 5 pounds and i think the doctors said he had the cord wrapped around his neck for a long time. I know they did see the dr because she got to full term. He does have a hyper-thyroid issue where they have to monitor his weight and he has mild hearing loss. I'm not sure if the cord was the cause or if it wasn't.. My friends did consider having genetic testing for the second baby. Well they just had another child without genetic testing and the baby is completely healthy.

I, too, am worried about this when I get pregnant. But it is reassuring that some of you had it and are completely normal.

I didn't know until after I delivered, but yes it was. During my last set of pushes, after her head was out the doctor said very sternly "Don't push." I thought that was normal since the nurse was suctioning her, and he was doing something also, I just couldn't see what (I assume that was when he was unwrapping the cord from her neck). Then he gave me the ok to push the last time, and she was perfectly fine. It wasn't until later when my mom told me that I found out the cord had been around her neck, and I'm really glad I didn't know until after. I probably would have totally freaked!

yes, and it was so freaking scary. during my entire labor, his heart kept decelerating and even one point they couldn't find it. it was so stressful. later we found out it was due to the cord being around his neck.
