I've looked a few profiles for potential doulas and I notice that some of them will come and help you around the house postpartum (with a fee, of course). I think its great for us since we don't have family around.

Yes. 2 postpartum visits were included in her fee and then we hired her for some extra visits. I have family nearby but her visits were stress free!

1 or 2 postpartum visits are included (she's a lactation consultant as well, so I'm very happy about that), and we have the option to have her come for more. We have family close though, so we probably won't bother unless it's a BFing issue.

She included two postpartum visits but only came once. It was around the holidays and by the time she had free time to schedule the second visit, I really didn't need her anymore because I had no idea what she'd do (I'd have loved to sic her on the laundry, dishes, cooking, etc but that wasn't part of the doula agreement).

@PurplePeony: There are actually people who are specifically certified as postpartum doulas only (not birth doulas who include some postpartum visits) who come in an do light housekeeping and cooking as well as provide emotional support and infant education to the family!

@IRunForFun: I know! I probably should have looked into a PP doula but in the end we didn't *really* need one. I just ended up not being a big fan of our birth doula (liked her when we interviewed and hired her, but she was not very useful at the birth and was difficult to schedule the PP visits with). So I definitely wasn't in the mood to look for someone else right then!

Ours was supposed to but since we were friendly, we spoke and met up casually. It would have been nice to just rehash the day with her but I really didn't mind otherwise. She gave me so many resources that I used so she was well worth it!

Our doula was actually only with us postpartum! We are 2 hours away from family and DH is in med school so... Help!

No nearby family + twins... It definitely sounds like a good option!
I didn't have one, but MIL was over every day for weeks and fed us.

Yes, and she's awesome! I had a situation where I just couldn't handle it on my own, so she came over for a day and helped.

Yes! Phone calls, texts and visits were all included with her fee, right up until about 6 weeks postpartum. It was amazing- she came over and helped me with breastfeeding and positioning, and gave me all sorts of tips and tricks to try.

Yes, as part of our contract, I get email and phone support for 6 weeks postpartum, including 1 visit. My doula came and visited during the first week and helped me learn how to pump properly. My flanges were too big! She also helped me with babywearing and can help you belly bind if you want to do that.

One phone call and one visit were included in my birth package. My doula was also a massage therapist so I got a small massage at my post partum visit.

Yes, one postpartum visit. Plus she also stopped by right after we got home from the hospital to drop off a bunch of frozen padsicles she had made for me.
