Sometimes I wonder if LO will ever crawl. Since she learned how to pull up, that's all she wants to do. She spends most of her time sitting or standing now. Did your LO skip crawling?

No. She did an army crawl, then a normal crawl, then cruised, then finally at 17 months walked.

I have heard of LO's doing this but I have heard you should do as much as you can to try to encourage floor time and crawling to help build muscles. Obviously some kids do skip crawling but may have muscle tone issues.

My doctor says lots of babies skip crawling but as long as they are mobile and getting tummy time then thats fine

@Thehistoryofus: I'm not worried about muscle tone. She's consistently been extremely strong for her age according to her pediatrician. She gets lots of floor time, but I'm not sure how to really encourage crawling. DH had "crawling camp" while he was off for Christmas. It didn't work

I thought my LO would skip crawling because he hated tummy time that much. I even took him for an occupational therapy consult. Funnily enough, the day after the consult he started crawling!!! 2.5 months later, the kid is fast!!
Does your LO reach forward in sitting position? Does she transfer onto her hands and knees? Something that I did (and it probably sounds terrible) was I put toys and little pieces of food just out of his reach so that he would have to transfer from sitting onto his tummy or all fours to get them. The first time he crawled he was going after a puff!

@Sammyfab: She's really good at reaching for things while sitting. She will transfer from sitting to hands and knees, but then just rolls to where she wants to go. She rolls so fast, she might just be lazy at learning a new skill when she's already efficient with the old one.

@Weagle: haha...maybe! My LO never rolled and actually didn't roll from back to belly until he was 6 months! To this day he seems to forget how to roll off his back.
Another tip we were given was to encourage time on his hands and knees and to place our hands on his calves to guide him forwards.
