i think your body is responding well to the breast pump and it probably stimulated your production.

I would say pumping. I've had days where I get tons of milk and then others where I get less. I switched to my work's Medela Lactina Select. It's an hospital grade pump compared to my 2007 PIS. I like the suction better on it. Even when I have a low day, it seems to pump more than my PIS.

@Mrs. High Heels: i knew that the milk changed as they got older, but i also thought that the supply would increase! That's why I thought there were bigger bottles available, as in we use the 4 - 5 oz bottles when they are small, and then 8 - 9 oz when they are older...hmmmm.

I go to a weekly breastfeeding support group and the LC that runs it says that babies should never get bottles with more than 4-5oz. Although i know many moms who give more than this before bed. Your milk changes as they get older and they don't necessarily need more. Maybe with formula the amounts keep increasing?

@Mrs Green Grass: good to know! what is the point of the bigger bottles than?

I've read that formula fed babies do need to increase the amount they drink as they get older, but that BF babies do not. As others mentioned, it probably has to do with the composition of your breastmilk changing. So maybe the bigger bottles are more for FF babies? LO is 7 months and she takes 5 oz bottles at day care. I think my production has stayed pretty steady since I started work back in January.

My most my LO ever drank in a single feeding was 5.5 oz at around 10 months. He started to drink less as he ate more solids around the year mark.
