Nope, they broke it for me but I couldn't feel it so if they wouldn't have told me I would have no idea!

On it's own? Nope, was broken in the hospital when I hit 9cm!
coconut / 8279 posts
Yep! I was in the hospital, getting ready to be induced. I rolled over in bed, felt a giant "pop" and tidal wave gush.

Nope! It may have happened when my epidural was being placed, but I'm not sure. That was the only time I felt a big gush.
papaya / 10560 posts
Yes! I couldn't tell if it did or not but I was pretty sure it did since I heard a pop. They took a test at the hospital and sent it to the lab...but I delivered the baby before the lab sample came back!

Yes, after I was checked in and getting "comfortable" at the hospital. A contraction came on and I felt a big warm gush. The midwife asked if I was sure and I was like, um yeah, I'm sure.
clementine / 818 posts
Yup, I had a series of small gushes over the course of a day, I didn't know it was my water breaking (though I thought it might be) since I didn't have any contractions for a while, and the Dr. office thought it was just remains of mucous from my plug that I lost the night before.

It broke on its own in the hospital. I felt a gush--I paged the nurse and told her either my water just broke or I peed all over the bed.

They broke mine after I was induced.... If it had broken on its own, that would have been the ultimate mess! Big gush, and it was tinged fairly heavily with meconium. Ick.

it did with charlie but i didn't get the epidural until 8cm. they broke it with olive, but i got my epidural at 3 cm!
pomegranate / 3438 posts
Yes, but it was just a trickle. I did feel a pop though. I felt the gush when I sat up to get my epidural at 7cm.
GOLD / papaya / 10166 posts
Yes. That's the only way I was convinced I was actually in labor (even though I was 5 days overdue)
pomegranate / 3791 posts
Yep - my midwife was literally in the middle of a sentence telling me that she was sending me home for the night since I seemed to be in early labor still rather than active. I wanted to kill her because my contractions were already awful, and was debating how to convince her to admit me when my water broke and took care of it for me!

It broke a little on it's own while I was in triage. I just felt like there was a little leaking. They later fully broke it for me and it SERIOUSLY gushed. Glad that something like that didn't happen in public!

@chopsuey: mine never broke! The doc and nurses were amazed... it was really cool!

Were they born with the sac intact? If so, that's really cool. Mine broke when I started pushing. I heard a pop and felt a huge gush.

Yeppers! At home in bed. I had been sleeping on towels for a few days prior just in case. It's so weird feeling. I heard/felt a pop and then....blech.

DS was born with the sac nearly completely intact. My water never broke!
grapefruit / 4291 posts
Yep, I felt / heard a pop at about 5 in the morning butBaby didn't arrive till 1430 the next day!

Yes. Mine broke in bed at 37 weeks while I was sleeping. When I got the hospital they kept asking me if I had pee'd myself. I guess people make that mistake a lot. They did the blue strip test and sure enough my water did break.

I was sitting on the toilet and there was some fluid and mucous in my panties. I wanted a better look (obviously being pregnant.. need to inspect everything) so I leaned over to turn on the light and a gush came out. I didn't feel much, just heard it. It continued to trickle out slowly for about an hour at home. When I got to the hospital they wanted a urine sample and when I went to sit it exploded everywhere haha.

It broke in its own. Big gush in front of dh as soon as he saw it come down, it was a funny look on his face after witnessing that

Part of it came out when I started pushing, like a big water balloon, and then popped. Baby came about an hour later.

With DS my water broke at home before I had any contractions.
With DD my OB broke my water in the hospital.
bananas / 9227 posts
Yes. First it was just a trickle. Then a gush like how it is in the movies!
grapefruit / 4584 posts
Yup! I was laying in bed, felt my first big contraction, started to think "I wonder if...." --- then POP. It was just a tiny trickle though, it didn't gush until I got up (luckily!)
pineapple / 12566 posts
Yes, both times. For my second baby, DS was right there when it happened and said "mama made an accident!"
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
My OB popped it for me, it was so gross...I had a lot of fluid. So glad it didn't happen on it's own! haha
