I did. I have a history of infertility in my family and I don't have periods unless I'm on birth control. I was lucky and she referred me to an RE right away, we didn't have to wait for the one year mark. It never hurts to ask!

That sounds like a good opportunity to have a preconception discussion and definitely bring up your concerns about irregular cycles/cysts affecting your fertility. It doesn't make you a worry wart!

@daniellemybelle: I've actually had two preconception appts with different OBs...the first time I specifically asked for it and the second time I just brought it up while I was there for an annual. The internal/physical part of the exam was exactly the same; they just talked to me about how regular my cycles were, whether or not there was a history of birth defects in my family, and so on. If you're worried your doctor won't spend enough time with you at the visit then maybe you can call and ask, but otherwise you could probably just bring it up!

I would definitely ask. Even if she doesn't run any tests, she might be able to give you tips that could help your specific situation, or things to look out for when you do start trying. I talked to my GYN about it almost a year before we started trying, because I knew I wouldn't be back in before that, although I was still on the pill at the time so it's not like we knew if my cycles would be normal. It never hurts to ask questions, I say.

I had my annual in Feb, I told her we were going to start trying in April. I asked the questions I had, and one was when do I call if we aren't having luck. She told me to call in 6 months if my cycle's were regular (I went off BC and start trying right away) or after a year if they were regular.

I was really worried it was going to take us a while too. One based on my age, and she made me feel better about it. I ended up getting pregnant on cycle #3, so you never know. And that was with a traveling husband during the week. Good Luck!!!

I don't think it's ever too early to bring up with your dr! The earlier you find out about problems the better. I started going to an re before I was ready to start ttc because I KNEW they would run a bunch of tests and it would take a long time - it ended up taking almost 4 months! The more info you have the better!

Definitely talk to your doc. If for no other reason, for insurance. If your insurance covers infertility treatment, most of them won't do anything for a year from when your doctor first has you on record for trying. So if your doctor writes it down in your chart now that you talked, then you might not have to wait a whole year if you have to seek help if needed (but of course I hope you don't have to!)
