We just moved into a house with a prehistoric dishwasher. The thing sounds creepily similar to the Angel from the grapefruiting video. Ick.
Anyone have a dishwasher recommendation for me? Is it worth it to buy a high end brand ? Thanks!

DH and I just started looking at these and were wondering what things do you look for in a dishwasher?!?! It seems like most have a "sound" rating as to how quiet they are.

@T.H.O.U.: I definitely like a quieter dishwasher! That's a huge bonus. I've seen some that have a "top rack only" cycle which is nice because we wash way more glasses/cups than plates.

We have a Siemens and I love how quiet it is. I can stand right next to it and can still only barely hear a hum and dishes come out clean, no complaints!

We have a Miele and LOVE it! It's so quiet and does a great job yet never damages our most delicate glasses or china.

We have a Bosch and it is awesome - it's super quiet, our dishes come out sparkling clean, it does a great job with delicate silver and glasses AND we never pre rinse (just scrape big bits off).

We have a GE and we paid a little extra for a sound-dampening kit or something like that. It's nearly silent, especially compared to the freight train of a DW we used to have. The other feature it has that I love is a detergent tank where you can load a ton of detergent in it and then not have to refill it every time.

@Shutterbug: Ohhh I like the detergent tank feature! I've never heard of that before!

@petunia354: yeah, I'm super lazy (haha) so I love that feature. The only thing is that if you use one type of detergent (enzyme or bleach, I think) you can't switch types (you can switch brands, but not from enzyme to bleach, for example). My MIL did that and it hardened in the tubes so she can't use the little tank anymore.

My sister is shopping for one and is adamant on it having a stainless steal inside. She said this is key for having dry dishes, worth looking in to?
I hope the move went well and the settling in process isn't too brutal! We're just now feeling at home a few months later (with more renos to go!), unfortunately, it takes time. Congrats again

I don't have a recommendation I have actually used but I'm really liking the features of the Kitchen Aid dishwashers.

I used to have a Kitchen Aid dishwasher in my old condo and it was nice but a little too loud, I now have a Fridgidaire and it is so quiet! My husband's family owns an appliance store - they always recommend Fridgidaire for the quietness and quality.

Our GE is so quiet that the first few times I used it, I thought it wasn't on haha!
