Disneyland or DisneyWorld? They can go on a lot of rides (even newborns). We have done Disneyland since my little dude was 6 months old. One thing to note is that you can't go on rides if they are in a back carrier. But we weren't required to take him off if he was in the front carrier. So we front wore him for naps so we could still ride rides.

We do naps in the carrier and in the stroller (if you are going to do that, bring blankets to cover it). I second renting the strollers from Disneyland if you don't want to bring your own. But most of the time he runs around or is in the back carrier.

@winniebee: Disneyland or World? Are you coming to Florida?!

@winniebee: do not use the Disney stroller. They are hard plastic don't recline and don't have storage. Either bring your own or rent one from a rental company.

@winniebee: we are carrying him no matter what even if we have a stroller. So I prefer my soft carrier (Like an ergo). We go to disneyland often so I don't know much about the world. But you should have fun. That was just about the time he started recognizing characters which was fun to see.

Also since you are going with people, take advantage of the baby swap passes. You put your family in the line and get a pass to go through the fast pass or exit when they return so everyone can get a turn to ride.

@winniebee: Ahh! I'm only an hour and 15 to Disney, so depending on how long you're here, we should try to meet up! And I'd bring an umbrella stroller with storage if that's what you have. Also, T can ride almost everything, so you won't have to worry about much other than Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Thunder Mountain Railroad.

@wonderstruck: Okay so the Disneyland ones are much nicer. They are fabric and recline and have TONS of space underneath. But if they are the hard plastic ones like zoo's have I wouldn't rent them either.

@brownie: I didn't know before now that Disneyland has nicer ones! Somehow I've still never been there. I'm kind of jealous, haha. Yeah at WDW they are pretty much just like the zoo-type ones. Luckily the stroller rental process is fairly painless, since it's a common problem for families with kids, there are companies that will drop the stroller off at your hotel room. Also, it's often actually cheaper than renting from Disney. I've heard really good things lately about Magic Strollers.

OP, I highly recommend the book The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World with Kids. It will give you details about each ride - height requirements, if it is dark, loud, has any images that may frighten a young child, etc. It also has suggested outlines for your day to help you plan things out more efficiently and not spend so much time waiting in line.

I took DD when she was 8.5 mo and we are going again this February (9-14th) when she will be 19 mo. I think this trip will be better because she gets SO into things now, but I am a bit worried about her getting overstimulated. We are going without hubby, and with a girlfriend who has a time share there. I am really excited and hope we can get her to take good naps in the stroller!

For rides, you'll be surprised how much he will be able to ride. Anything without a height restriction and he'll be good. If you want to go on rides that he can't go on, either use the singles line or do "baby swap", just don't forget to tell the cast members that is what you are doing.

I am going to start planning soon but one of the best things I did last trip was to pack diaper packs. Essentially I would place a disposable changing pad, one diaper, and a few wipes (in a snack size baggie) in a quart sized baggie and would place a bunch in a zipper pocket of my stroller. That way when I needed to change DD I would just grab a diaper pack and go. Much less to fiddle with.

Each park has a baby care center. These are quiet and have the nicest changing tables. They also have a spot to nurse or pump. They have high chairs. If you need a break, take advantage of these.

@winniebee: That's awesome that your parents are renting a place! For us it's always super expensive, so that's definitely a big part of waiting.

We took DD when she was 18m to DisneyWorld. She did great and went on every ride that didn't have a height requirement (which was a lot). We baby carried instead of taking a stroller because it was so much easier to hold her in lines and we didn't have to search for our stroller in the stroller parking areas or wait for space on monorails/boats.
