LO has a dress up day the week prior related to the school book fair. Dress like a book character - so I'll be making her a Pete the Cat and his four groovy buttons outfit. She also has a dress like a professional day that I need to figure out something for. But Halloween - bought witch and cat costumes.

Ds1 loves Care Bears and we just had his 3rd birthday party this weekend so it was Care Bears themed and we made us shirts with belly badges that we are also using as our Halloween costumes. Here's a picture of the belly badges for the group of close family we made. My son as Funshine.

We're going as Go Dog Go. Does anyone know of a tutorial for no sew dog ears on a hoodie? I'm not that crafty.

@MrsKoala: I'm not crafty either but I'm thinking circles of felt plus glue gun? at least that's how my limited skills would work haha

DS is going to be Robin Hood which is easy DIY. Dd is maid marian but I haven't even started hers yet!

@Mrs. Pickles: Ahhh glue gun! I was wracking my brain to think of how to attach ears without sewing. D'oh. Thanks!

DD2 is going to be a gum all machine (super easy). DD1 is in a princess phase and we bought her a princess dress but I'm excited to do Cinderella hair

@Aandmklover: c was a care bear last year and it was so cute. I pretty much did the same DIY but she was cheer bear, because I could find a pink hoodie and sweatpants.

@autumn865: I thought about making that for DD this year! Sadly we don't really have anywhere to go

How's everyone else doing? Pieces are cut for Oliver's fox costume (it should be a quick sew) and I'm finally making progress on DH's Smee hat! I actually like it so much I got yarn to make one for me, lol

I just bought the materials to make DS's costume this weekend. Need to sit down and figure out how to get it all to work out! He's going to be Yoshi from Mario Brothers. My main concern is making Yoshi's face. I'm using the top of the zip up hoodie to house the face... His snout will be most difficult I think. Eek!

@Jadj13: Mind sharing the tutorial you used? I'm making DS a Yoshi costume and could use all sorts of references available!

DD is going to be a cat. I'm making her tutu and stuff for the costume.

@MrsKoala: oh my gosh, I wish I had thought of this!! then our dog could participate too! Will you all be wearing hats?
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@MrsLonghorn: Yes we will!! My husband is wearing a bowler hat, I'm going to figure out a way to make a crazy hat, and LO is wearing a flat cap like the dog on the cover.

I don't know what possessed me today, but I made the kids costumes. I have never done a diy costume before. Usually not my thing. But we are going to boo at the zoo tomorrow and a costume party Sunday and their Halloween costumes are meant for cool weather and it's going to be in the 80s this weekend. So DD will be buzz light year and DS Woody. Hopefully they actually wear it long enough for a picture.

@Navy_Mommy: Thanks!! The woody vest was easy since I found a pattern and directions online but the buzz I had to come up with all on my own.

@simplyfelicity: lol, no. I was selling stuff I sewed for a bit there, but it took all the fun out of it. Now I just stick to sewing for my friends and family.

We are going as minions! I crocheted hats for us all. It was hard to find yellow shirts so I found white ones and a package of yellow fabric dye later, yellow shirts that match! It was my first time dying fabric, it was so easy!

@Mrsk: so cute! Watch out, when you realize how easy fabric dyeing is, nothing is safe! Lol. I dye a lot of white toddler clothes just because toddlers are station magnets, lol.

@blackbird: That tutu is adorable!
H is going to be a monkey princess. I have her tutu done, I just need her to try it on so I can trim it up. I'm 3/4 of the way done sewing the shirt and I need to make an ear headband.

@Foodnerd81: I l ove it! I bought the same hoodie for my son. And the pants too because I'm dressing him as Daniel tiger.
I didn't really diy the costume as much as buy pieces here and there from the store. I could have made the Daniel tiger mask that I purchased on etsy, I've made animal face masks before, but I just didn't have the time!
I'm still waiting for it to come in the mail. And I don't have red shoes for him yet!
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@Mrs. Pen: I'm the same- I put the costume together myself so it's like... Semi homemade. I think. She would have loved to be Daniel I'm sure but since she is still two I can still have a say.

Peter pan is store bought, fox lost boy was made by me, and the only thing I did on my costume was add lace to a maternity tank to make it more like Captain Hook.
