Like the title says. I was just wondering. If so I’d really like to hear from them about everything going on in the world right now and anti-racist parenting. If not, I’d happily take recommendations for other black mom blogs to follow? Thanks all!

If we do, it's not their job to educate white and non Black moms of color. Instead, try:

@MrsSRS: I didn’t mean to suggest they had an obligation to post. I was just curious to hear their voices on this subject. Thanks for the links.

@wrkbrk: I know your request was innocent, but requests like that can be part of the problem. That is centering whiteness, and we should be working to decenter it and self-educate.

@MrsSRS: Interesting take. Thanks for responding. I was actually trying to do the opposite - ask POC directly for input instead of continuing talking in an an echo chamber about something my friends and I know little about. Our (white) preschool principal recently tried to host a town hall on being anti racist and it was suggested to him that he listen and not talk. So that’s where I was coming from. I certainly do not intend to add to the problem.

@wrkbrk: I hear you. But what happens with requests like that is you are unintentionally asking Black people to do processing and emotional labor for you. It's great to acknowledge that you and your friends don't have a lot of information and that you want to get more. But we have Google, and lots of places in the media are putting out lists of anti-racist books and things for white people to read and educate themselves. It's your job, not the job of Black bloggers on this or any platform, to educate yourself. I've tried retyping this a couple times and no matter how I type it it comes out sounding a bit like an attack. It's not supposed to sound like that, I just can't figure out a softer way to say it.

@MrsSRS: Understood. And I appreciate your perspective. It is hard to participate in this conversation being constantly afraid of saying the wrong thing. But I acknowledge that as my own problem! I have gathered a lot of resources and will add yours to my list!

Yes to everything @mrssrs: said. It's an interesting line to walk as white people, listening when Black people reach out, speak at protests, post online, etc., without asking them directly to do so. We need to take on that emotional and mental labor to seek out what is already available and listen when people are ready to talk. A lot of white people are uncomfortable when they hear this because they feel like they are trying to do the right thing. We need to sit with that discomfort, question it, and look for alternatives. Here is an article by a Black author that addresses this issue: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/jun/06/people-ask-me-how-they-can-support-black-lives-matter-at-the-moment-all-i-can-feel-is-sadness-and-grief
Also, I know there aren't really new bloggers right now, but maybe instead it would be helpful to advocate to the Bees and community in general to have a more inclusive blogging team.

@wrkbrk: Oh I'm scared about saying the wrong thing too. All the time. And sometimes I say the wrong thing. And I hope that when people catch me I learn and move forward.

@MrsSRS: ️
Maybe what I should have said is, is there some way Hellobee can diversify to amplify black voices? That would be helpful to all (I think).

@Chuckles: I just saw your post. Thanks for the article and yes I agree. Perhaps we can push for a more diverse blogging team!

Mrs Popcorn if I recall correctly, but her posts have been removed...?
@HonestToddler is a Black (Canadian) mom who posts semi regularly on Twitter.
I can't imagine there will be any new bloggers, the Bees don't seem interested in growing the site anymore. I miss the old days!

If you are interested in cooking, TheKitchn on Instagram has been highlighting Black bloggers and cookbook authors. Also, two websites that I love, Cup of Jo and Gofugyourself, have recently done some great wrap ups and posts with lots of links to anti-racism reading.

Don't be afraid to say the wrong thing when you're striving to be on the right side of history. It's all a lifetime of unlearning. Everyone's not going to binge some podcasts and books and be healed. Being actively anti-racist is like a muscle. You'll build it up and then keep at it for the rest of your life, otherwise it'll atrophy any progress you've made.

@foodiebee:
Also adding a suggestion, start in your own circle. Tell friends, family you are learning to be anti-racist. Readily initiate those conversations.
