Not really but sometimes I find myself talking in a high, animated voice

I talk in a high pitched voice, not going to lie about that. But I always use proper English. It drives me crazy when people talk to their babies in "baby speak". How are they supposed to learn how to speak properly??

I definitely speak in a higher pitch sometimes, but I always speak properly to him. Poor grammar is the bain of my existence. This is one of the things that drives me absolutely BATTY about my MIL. She speaks to D like he's an idiot. "D'awww...doezh you have da sneezers?" No. Just. No.

@littlebug: My MIL does the same thing. Every time I scream in my head "That's not a word!!!" Babadeebadah! WTF old lady!
I avoid talking to her like a baby.

I copy her noises back to her and also converse in regular (but higher-pitched) English. I think I read that it's good for them, developmentally, to hear their own noises echoed back? Anyway, if she says "gaaahblergh ooop!" I'll say back to her "oh, gaaahblergh ooop? Are you trying to tell me you want to play with your ladybug toy?" or something like that.

Nope, I have way too much to say!
On a related note, the parting wisdom from my senior year English teacher in high school on the last day of school was "You may only speak baby talk to your dog, because they'll never repeat it back to you!" She seemed quite adamant about that point. She has long since retired, but I remembered what she said a decade later when my son was born. I read him Shakespeare in her honor, too. (That was the other piece of advice on babies that she doled out that day.)

I animate my voice for her (less so as she's aging), but use the proper words. My mom is pretty bad about using baby words, and it makes my skin crawl. She rarely sees her though, so I don't make a big deal about it

Normally we use proper words but I admit to using baa baa instead of bottle.

Nope. I have made a point not to. I talk in silly voices to her, but I use real words.

@littlebug: Ugh - mine always asks her if she wants to go "seepys". It's sleep!!!

No but my husband does! And our LO is 2! Waaaaay too old for baby talk.
What kills me is my mom. Whenever she's talking to LO, she speaks much louder. Like my toddler is deaf. Gah
