Nope. We are so picky we never get to the point of shortlist, whichever name we can both agree on is the name.

@Mrs. Pen: I can't believe he is so open about it!

I used to think I wouldn't care but I realize as we get closer to needing to make that decision that to some extent I do care. There is a family name I like that I know my brother has a bad association with and I worry he would make comments about it. I also have had a friend comment that she hates a name and how she sees it as super trashy etc and it was a name I like. I don't know if I could use it knowing how terribly she is speaking of this mom who did. I think because of that I try to walk the line between neutral and enthusiastic reactions even on the odd chance I really don't care for a name.

I care to an extent. If 90% of people I knew didn't like a certain name, I would assume that will apply to the world at large and wouldn't want my LO to go through life with a name most people don't like upon hearing.

If it's a perfectly acceptable name and I just had 1-2 family members or friends who had a bad association with it, I would tell them they could suck it.

Some people I do, some people I don't. My parents love DS' name (actually my mom threw out the suggestion), which made me happy. On the other hand, I could care less that my in-laws weren't so big on it. I was annoyed with them for expressing their opinions, but I definitely didn't care enough to even consider changing it. I think the name's pretty normal/common enough, but I had some friends who never heard of it before and thought it was weird. But that just makes me think THEY'RE the weird ones for never having heard it before, lol.

This time around I'm choosing not to share our baby name with anyone besides close friends, because I am not going to change the name but I don't want to hear what people say. Once he is born and I tell people the name, they are less likely to say they dislike it. We go for slightly unique names....

@Mrs. Pen: I really like your sons name too!! And I also can't believe your brother would state so much that he didn't like it! I feel like that's something an elderly person would let slip, since they seem to have less of a filter!

I care in the sense that I want people to know how to pronounce the name we are picking. It's a family name though and we aren't changing the spelling, as it's authentic and a real name the way we want it. We aren't telling anyone IRL until he is here though... other than my massage lady/hair lady/nail lady and people I don't see often that aren't in my circle of friends, lol!

Nope! I love my little boys name. It's disappointing when family isn't as excited as I am but oh well.. That won't make me change my mind. As long as you love it then that's all that matters.

No, but we haven't had any negative comments. I know people on here dislike top names, which we used, but no one IRL has ever said anything to me. People always say they have pretty names.

With my first we shared our name choices, and it was a big mistake. Everyone has an opinion, and usually they weren't very nice about it. This time around we decided to keep it hush hush, which is very easy when we're still undecided.

I don't really care if someone doesn't like his name, we.sis encounter.it with a couple ppl and I just shurg it off. One lady said it was the worst name shes ever heard....lol I don't care we love his name and that's all that matters

@Mrs. Pen: my cousin married a Muslim woman and their daughters have traditional Arabic names. My Catholic family was outraged. The names are easy to pronounce, and quite lovely, if you just take the time to learn them. My mom for the longest would not even try and flat out say other names to be funny. After a few hang ups and calling her out for it she sucked it up and learned the girls' names.

@Mrs. Pen: I see a lot of bragging on here about not using a top name, I would never in a million years use a top name, etc etc. I don't hear this negativity IRL. But you're right, people aren't necessarily saying that those are ugly names. I'm sorry that people are trying to mess with J's name. Not cool!

I am afraid to share our name choices until we our sure about a name. Everyone always has an opinion and I don't want to be influenced by any negative ones!

I would love to say that I don't care what people think of our LO's name, but it definitely makes me smile when people say they love M's name

I think it would be pretty hard for me if her name wasn't well liked by our family and friends.

We've had a LOT of people ask us if Effie came from the Hunger Games. Before she was born this bothered me that people would think this but since she's been born, it doesn't bother me much at all. (She's named after DH's grandma.)
