Sometimes i will nurse my LO earlier than her next scheduled feeding if she seems super fussy and needs to chill out. But she has NO interest in nursing if there isn't any milk coming out... which is fine with me since I'd prefer not to be used as a pacifier anyhow. But it always impresses me when people say their LO will nurse even if there's no milk flowing.

Yes! My LO loves to comfort nurse at night . . . it is sometimes a struggle to get her to sleep without a boob in her mouth!

Same here! Lo will NOt comfort nurse unless he's crying like after getting shots. If he's not hungry it's impossible to get him to stay on.

All the time. I can tell when he's doing it because my nipples start to really hurt. But heaven help me if I try to delatch him....

Sometimes. Mostly at night, but sometimes during the day if he's upset about something and just won't calm down.

I will admit yes. I will offer it to her if she is exceptionally fussy. Not that often though.

I don't know. We have a routine of nursing after work and daycare (when she probably doesn't *need* it but it's just what we do now). She will also nurse overnight if she wakes up frantic. So, those times, I guess are comfort nursing. I don't nurse her if she gets injured or is just generally fussy, though.

I nurse P anytime she seems to fuss. She will usually drink a bit & then be back on her way, occasionally she'll really comfort nurse & what the boob in the mouth the entire time she sleeps! For the most part though we weren't able to when she was little b/c all the feeding issues we had. I'm glad to be able to comfort nurse now!

Not much anymore, but she used to a lot. She would nurse anytime she was too stimulated or just out of sorts. I didn't mind the cuddle time

no, if she is not hungry, she won't nurse. she only nurses to get milk.

Yeah, she loves her comfort nursing. Only when we're alone though, it's hard enough getting her to nurse at all in public!

Miss A does enjoy a good comfort suck but is still easily distracted, one of her favourite tricks is to lie down with me to nurse, have a few sucks, roll away for a bit, roll back to nurse again, roll away again etc, etc. I love it

Nope he's never been one to comfort nurse. Only if he is really, really, really wound up and upset but he more.. comfort eats. No milk = no nursing in his book!

All the time. As a toddler, I try not to nurse her when I know that she's hungry if possible. I try to make most of her nursing for comfort and closeness.

R in has taken to nursing an hour at night. I know part of it she is using me as a pacifier but it helps get her sleepy. So right now I am going with it.

Yup, if she's fussy I change her and nurse. Also sometimes she nurses for 45 minutes or so and most of the time she isn't really sucking. I ALWAYS have milk though so I have to be careful but usually she'll just eat for a few minutes if she wan't really hungry.

@Kemma: DS does the exact same thing! I just think of it as our bonding time
