I squish them, my husband breaks them apart/ Cuts them. I feel like squishing is sufficient for a baby that is proficient with BLW. What do you do?

LO wasn't full on BLW, but I cut blueberries in half until she had teeth

I squished once when B was tiny and I thought he would just lick it, or something? Anyway, he inhaled the whole thing and choked/gagged a bit (not full on choking, but more than gagging if that makes sense). So my husband has forbidden blueberries because it freaked him out so bad. We cut grapes into 1/16ths basically.

Squish! She swallows thing waay bigger than a blueberry anyway!

I did both, depending on how much effort I wanted to put into it.

I cut blueberries and grapes using THIS miracle product! http://www.oxo.com/p-1373-grape-cutter.aspx

Squish! But I prefer giving him frozen wildblueberries which are tiny.

We squished. Now at 13 months we give them whole. He has eaten about 5 trillion and seems to do fine. He has lots of teeth though.

I used to squish but LO seems to do a sufficient job of doing that himself now

Neither but I only give her the smaller ones. I cut and peel grapes for her!

I just gave blueberries this morning and I cut them in half. Until a week or so ago I cut them in fourths because I was so nervous!
Squishing is an interesting idea though, never thought about it!

I squished blueberries. My mom always cut them for him. Grapes I do in quarters or halves, depending (he is 20mo), and he eats blueberries whole.

I squish if they're small, or tear in half if they're huge. LO is big into shoving everything in her mouth at once lately though (11 months today)...

We cut them until she was able to handle it. Initially my mom and DH thought it was "totally fine" to give them to her whole at 11 months and of course she choked (like actual choking) because no one likes to listen to me! So after that we cut them. Then cut just the bigger ones, then eventually stopped cutting them.

I did both. Squished small one, cut the bigger ones, for a long time- like 18 months maybe. Finally started just giving them and she was fine but her friends had been eating them whole for months. Then again some of them eat grapes whole too and I won't do that until she's in kindergarten or something.

When she was younger and not as good at chewing (like under 14 mo... she got a really slow start on solids) I cut them in half because I know she did not always chew her food and often just swallowed it. Just in the last few weeks we have started giving them to her whole because she definitely chews thing well now. But I still only give her one at a time if I'm doing that because she has a tendency to shove a lot of something in her mouth otherwise and I don't trust her to chew them all that way. And also when there are the big monster blueberries I cut those or I eat them myself

I don't remember cutting the blueberries at all. I figured they were smaller than half a grape, so I was ok.

ha never occurred to me that I could just squish them. I have always cut them in half.

I cut them in the very beginning (some of the Costco or TJ blueberries are HUGE). Then after the first couple months, I smushed.

Unless they are very big ones I just give them to him whole. Same as Grace - smaller than half a grape and I don't usually worry. But he didn't start eating blueberries til at least 12 months I don't think.

huh, it never occurred to me to squish them.... I've always cut, which is a pain in the neck. I'm excited to try squishing and see how he does!

I quarter them for my 10 month old. I know it's probably overboard but gah food/choking cause me so much anxiety!!

Squish?! What is this squishing blueberries??
I always cut them for older DD. Younger isn't there yet.
bananas / 9118 posts
Squish! With my oldest I squished, forgot about it and started slicing them in half for our youngest, and my husband asked me what the heck I was doing. I had forgotten between the two
@twodoghouse: awww, definitely scary! Give them another chance, they are totally toddler/baby crack!

S I gave them while/u swished because he loved stuff that "popped" in his gums - I cut in 1/2 for D because u find it just as fast as squishing and she is a food shover and also likes to cheek food.
