If something might be subpoenaed, then I will delete it. Otherwise I tend to just archive and save old email.

I use gmail too and save everything.

I don't ever delete stuff unless it's junk mail; I just have a ridiculously full inbox on gmail. Which I mainly just check on my phone, anyway.

@.twist.: Sure my brother used to work at an investment bank, and Elliot Spitzer decided to take on all of Wall Street and subpoenaed all of the emails from my brother's work (and other investment banks too). All of those emails were dumped into a database, and manually reviewed by an army of paralegals... I and my family had emailed personal stuff to his work email, so all of that stuff was in there. Awesome.

Years later I got sued and had to voluntarily turned over any email and/or saved chat that might even be tangentially related to the matter at hand. Again, a lot of very personal material ended up going into discovery.

Now I save almost nothing. Never again...

@.twist.: if you think there's a chance of a legal proceeding, I would literally trash your entire inbox!

I delete pretty much everything. I save order confirmations until I receive my stuff, and recipes I email to myself, but everything else gets deleted. I hate clutter in real life and in my inbox, lol

I archive everything and only delete junk...

My friends rarely email me. I go through once a year and delete anything that more than 18 months old.

I delete everything (unless there's important info that i need to remember). I'm never going to read it again, so why would I keep it?
