I'm doing my weird thing right now as LO dozes on my lap. She really likes it when I hum Aulds Lang Syne (yeah, The New Year's song). My DH laughs at me every time but it works and is totally mindless to hum.
Anybody else do anything weird/funny?

haha, I used to sing jingle bells to my nanny-LO. in march/april, when she was 2-3 months old. I did laps around their staircase (colonial style) and sang jingle bells over and over and over until I started spitting!! hahaha.

I sing Braham's Lullaby, but I only know the first line "lullaby and goodnight" so then I make up the rest of the words. I start off saying nice lyrics like "just relax, close your eyes, and you soon will be dreaming!" and after a while I'm saying things that might put me in the looney-bin. I am usually doing this while bouncing him on a yoga ball and looking straight ahead as to not excited him with eye-contact. I am sure I look ridiculous.

@cvbee: ohmigosh, i've done the avoiding eye contact thing before and DH thought i was ridiculous. When she was 2 months old i'd always tell him, "don't look into her eyes! It stimulates her!" hahaha. I remember sitting on the floor while patting her to sleep so that i wouldn't make eye contact.
@IcebergMom: I hum ALS too...no idea why!

I lay down and nurse him to sleep. If he's really cranky I pat his butt and say shhh, shhh, shhh, over and over again. I don't think it's that weird, but ya never know I guess

@caffeinated: but he is learning how if he makes the cutest noises and then I peek down to look at him and he gives me a huge smile he can melt my no-looking ways. Mostly I'm learning to put him down better at the right times so that I don't have to do ridiculous things. It's amazing how easily he can go down if I get the timing just right.

My DH used to do baby hypnotism. He searched for it on YouTube. My favourite line was "your eyes are heavy...like barbells." it was hilarious.

@cvbee: I know what you mean! When i go in for her midnight feedings, i try not to interact with her but she gives me the biggest smiles and i have to fight every urge to not play with her. haha. i'm glad things are getting better in the sleep department!

@cvbee: bahaha sooo funny. I totally make up my own words to that song too cause I don't know them.
as for no eye contact, it's easy for night feedings as I just grab him, bring him to our bed, nurse him, then put him back in his crib. I never turn on a light and he always goes right back to sleep.
But if he needs a diaper change... yeah it's a little harder. And he's sooo cute in the middle of the night... why?!

@cvbee: That's so funny, I keep meaning to google the words to that lullaby because i only know the first line too.
I sing the same three songs over and over because in my mind he's used to it now and will know that those three songs mean bedtime. And I never sing you are my sunshine at bedtime because it got him all cranky once and now I think it's cursed. Totally logical, right?
