I read yesterday that kegels aren't really that good for strengthening your pelvic floor and instead you should do deep squats.
Do you do kegels? Do you think they work?

@Anya: Yup.
OP: I do them when I remember...which is not very often.

No, I had read the same thing while I was pregnant. I do squats with my trainer every week, so I figure that I'm covered.

@Mamaof2: do you remember where you read that? I have a friend who is obsessed with doing kegels and is so upset she can't do them properly. Maybe this would make her feel better

I do them when I read about them but then I forget. I don't do squats often, or ever, either.

No, but I've been doing a lot of squats lately- no clue those helped do the same thing as kegels!

My yoga instructor says the best way to practice a proper kegel is by squeezing and releasing your partner's .. appendage, during intercourse. As another alternative!
I know the traditional "squeeze like you're stopping a flow of urine" most times causes tensing of everything else down there instead of concentrating on the pelvic floor lifting.

I've been seeing a pelvic floor specialist and I have to do them 3 times a day. Holding for 10 seconds and also quick holds. She said most people do them wrong, so they're ineffective. She had to teach me how to do them right. I think there are 16 muscles she's working with me on? And they ARE helping!!! I have less incontinence now than I did weeks ago. I do think squats are good, though!
The author is a physical trainer, so....yay squats

@knittylady: she told me to squeeze so tight, your vagina and anus "lift". She had to hook me up to electrodes before I figured them out, lol. I get to play computer games with my hoohah every week now
