These days, I'm only using debit cards... unless it's for work, in which case I use a work credit card. I'm not really getting many miles though, since I don't charge very much!
I'd like to get a card and earn enough miles to travel to visit Bee's parents every year... anyone do anything like that?

Oh yeah, I get a ton of miles on my credit card. Plus every year if I spend a certain amount, I get a free companion ticket.

DH has a Delta Amex that he uses for his business expenses. We always fly my family out here using miles and the last couple times I flew to CA we used miles too!
I think he currently has like 160,000 ff miles.

I have the Southwest card and it is AWESOME. I haven't paid for a flight in years. You earn points, which you can redeem for airfare or giftcards. I've flown to LA, Florida, Vegas... all free

Yup, we have the Delta AMEX and love it. I use it for all business expenses, and DH uses it for all travel expenses. We get a $99 companion ticket every year and rack up lots of miles!

My parents have an AA card. We were able to fly first class to Japan on their miles!

We just started putting everything we could (and paying it off each month) onto a Capital One card. Shortly after, my SIL told me I was doing it all wrong and I should be switching between different cards, based on the deals they give each month. ... Too much work for me.

I had a couple hundred thousand miles at one point . . . I was flying my family around first class (because I wanted to see them but didn't want to fly myself!).

We don't get miles, we get general points which we can use for anything, including travel. We've used points for airline travel in the past; what I like about this card (Chase Amazon) is we can redeem points on any airline/cruise/etc instead of being limited like with some cards. We use our cc for all purchases so points rack up quick!

The answer is a resounding YES! I put everything on various credit cards to optimize my % back. Of course we pay off in full each month. Our recent trip to Europe was paid for mostly by points!
What airline do you like to fly? Do you already have a stash of points on 1 airline? I could help recommend a card.
Also, FYI - debit users can also earn miles if you aren't comfortable with a credit card.

Both hubby and I have gotten a ton of free flights out of our United Mileage Plus cards. My husband got pissed off about something once and cancelled his though... But after we used it to fly overseas all on miles. Now he has a different points system cc that also allows him to use it on any airline, I believe. That might actually be better but harder to get free flights if you keep using it for other things.

Yes! Southwest has a great card. We got 2 free flights for signing up, and we earn 2-3 flights per year (we use it as a debit card & pay off each month).

I don't, but my parents have the Delta Amex, and they collect enough miles to take a big trip each year. This year they're going to Paris, but in the past they've gone to Hawaii, Ecuador, Charleston, Savannah, etc....all on FF miles! They are generous with miles too, and have flown me & DH out to visit them a few times.

Yup! We just got a new credit card for miles, but the only reason I signed up for it was for the one time bonus. It was 60k mile bonus for charging 1k within the first 3 months. I'll probably cancel it after a year though, since they charge a annual fee after that, and it's not worth it to me (and I don't believe in paying a fee for a CC when there are so many good free ones). The miles rewards without the initial bonus is not as good as other (no fee) cash rewards cards out there.

No - we don't fly very often. I have an Amazon.com card that earns me points, and I think the points can be turned into miles though. I usually just use the points at Amazon.com though, since I shop there ALL THE TIME.

We have a cash back card instead of FF miles. We don't travel a ton (usually 1x year) and DH much prefers money back on our purchases. We get 4% back at gas, grocery and pharmacy, 2% on recuring bills and some other stores and 1% back on all other purchases. It's a pretty good deal. We've switched everything over to that CC for the $$ back

We do cash back instead of miles. Though we could cash in our points for travel too, I think. I'm not sure which works out to be a better deal.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: When we went to redeem the ticket they said they were no longer offering that benefit. The way I read the forum that I linked below, they should have honored at least one companion fare for me. I might call them back and see what I can get, but it sounds like that ship already sailed.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: You probably opened your card before we did. You don't get your certificate until your anniversary on the card, and in our case the anniversary is after the benefit was discontinued
