what parenting looks like on any given day in other people's houses?

So I have really spent NO time around kids except my own. I was the youngest, one of the youngest cousins, and none of my close friends had babies before me. So basically I have no idea what I'm doing...ever... beyond my general gut instincts, what I see online, and vague memories of my own childhood.

Random example-- we pretty much always sit on the floor with our kid when she is awake/we are not doing something that requires standing. We never sit on the couch because she won't stay on the couch and she whines if we're on the couch and she's on the floor. DH mentioned it at work this week and everyone looked at him like he had 3 heads and said they all sit on the couch when their little kids are up all the time. But I don't understand how you interact with your kid if they're all alone on the floor anyways (or maybe they just don't interact as much as we do?). lol

Anyways. Sometimes I just wish I could be a fly on the wall of various people's homes and see how they raise their kids in the non-noteworthy moments. Anyone else weirdly (wannabe) voyeuristic like me?
