Tonight is a friend's Halloween party. While I would like to go since she is starting it early just for her friends with kids, it starts at 7pm. That is M's bedtime. I really am struggling with if we should go or not.
Do you ever keep your baby out past their bedtime? Are we looking for trouble by doing this?

Nope. Last night was DH's bday and I insisted everyone come to us for dinner so we don't interrupt her routine. After her sleep regression is finally over, I can't go back to so many night wakings.

yes we do sometimes. yesterday DS was out with DH because my husbands best friend is in town, they didn't get home until 8...that's usually when we start bed time routine. he slept fine and went to bed at 9:30. if we are visitng sometimes he stays out past bed time too. but it doesn't happen often

Yes, we don't rush home to meet bedimes since we don't have a firm schedule. She usually falls asleep in the car and stirs when we get home but goes back to sleep right away.

Not when she was a baby, nothing came up that seemed important enough to deprive her of sleep. She wasn't the type of baby that you could transfer from car seat to crib. She always woke up.

Yes, every once and a while. My 6 month old's bedtime is 7, as well, but we've had later plans a few times in the past months that meant we didn't get home till 9-11pm or so. He typically falls asleep as usual (I just wear him), and then falls back asleep once we get home. If we're at a friend's house, we just put him in a bedroom at his bedtime. It hasn't caused any real issue with his schedule.

yep, I usually just bring his pjs and make sure he's in them before he goes in the car on the ride home - he falls asleep and I'm able to just put him in bed from the carseat.
he sleeps fine and it doesn't throw him off unless it's a few nights in a row, like when we're on vacation.

Yes; if we go out to dinner we’re always out passed her bedtime. It’s not a big deal for E; but I’m not sure how adaptable she is compared to most other babies (maybe she is easier? I dunno!). We just put her in her jammies and she falls asleep in her carrier and never really wakes up when we get home. We just feed her in her sleep like usual; change her to her nighttime diaper and put her to bed. She’s only had 1 mini-melt down while out past her bedtime; and as soon as I picked her up and held her; she fell asleep.

We usually have one weekend-night a week where LO goes to bed late if we go out to dinner, etc. We just try to have her take an extra nap beforehand, and we'll sometimes do an abbreviated bedtime routine (no bath) when we get home depending on how fussy she is. Even when she was having her sleep regression, we figured it couldn't get much worse and at least we could do something fun

I've kept her up a few times.. when we had family visiting and when we went out of state.
I don't think one night is going to throw her off, so you should go and have fun!

never when charlie was a baby. we only started pushing his bedtime when he was almost 2?

Sometimes but not by very much. LO goes down between 7:30 - 8:00 and we've stayed out till about 8:30 with him at 6 months.

We have if there's a special reason. People in town, visiting family etc. She just either sleeps in her car seat or in the car. If she wakes up when we get home I'll change her and nurse. She usually goes down easy.

LO isn't here yet but we definitely will. I've seen my BILs and SILs do it with their kids and it worked great, they didn't miss out on anything and baby still slept, just in a moses basket or someones arms. It doesn't work for everyone but we'll try it.

Yeah I do pretty frequently. I just wear her in the Ergo and she typically falls asleep like that.

Yeah, I just did for my sister's wedding this weekend. I would go crazy if we stopped doing things and had to be home by 7:30 every night.

LO is not here yet, so i know i have no idea what being sleep deprived even means, but i really hope to have a more flexible schedule with her. i've seen it both ways and i can't imagine completely ruling out all activities after 6:30. i would die.... says the childless person. we'll see what happens in 2013.

We were very strict with bedtime with DD, but with #2 we are a lot more lax. It messes up his schedule for a day, but we can't just stop our lives- at least that's our attitude!

We try not to do it several nights in a row, but she is usually up past her bedtime once, maybe twice, a week. It will really mess her sleep up if we do it several nights in a row, but one night here or there doesn't affect her. If we're somewhere that we can put her down we do that. She usually goes back to sleep easily when we get home. We want to protect her sleep, but we also want to maintain our normal lives.

I do every once in a blue moon. Like tonight, she went down an hour late because we went to a Halloween event. She was cranky but fell asleep when we got home and has been sleeping peacefully for an hour now. It doesn't normally throw her off too, too badly.

Very rarely. We pay the price for it for like 3 days afterward so it has to be super important.

We do sometimes.... but usually not too much past. I think it couldn't hurt to try it. Worst that happens is you go and have to leave pretty quickly after.

Yeah, we do from time to time. As long as we follow the routine and give her bath when we get home, she sleeps fine.

We do about once a month. Gonna do it tomorrow for a Halloween party... We'll get home around 11 or so.
