J is awake from his nap, happily chattering to himself in there... so I haven't gotten him up yet and it's been about 15 minutes! I normally get him up right away but this allowed me to get some dinner prep and a load of dishes done

Yep, if he's playing by himself and I'm in the middle of doing a chore or something, I wait to get him.

My rule of thumb is as long as they aren't crying, they're probably okay where they are. Sometimes this gets me 15 more minutes of sleep in the morning (which means a lot if they start babbling at 6:15). Sometimes that extra 15 minutes makes the whole difference to the whole day.

Not for too long since she's in the toddler bed. Her room is baby proofed but she likes to take all of her clothes out of her dresser and laundry basket. Ahhh.

@HLK208: Sometimes I come in and find the books all over the floor but at least DS is usually kind enough to hand one to DD in her crib...

Unless they're crying or I need to get them up for a reason, in bed they stay for as long as they're happy. It's been upwards of 45 minutes before! I figure that they're entertaining themselves, so why would I want to interrupt that?!!?

Yes, as long as she's happy I'll wait. In the mornings she'll usually start babbling while she laying there. But once she stands up, I know it's time to get her.

@fancyfunction: yeah i'll wait if he's rolling around and babbling. if i happen to see him stand up on the monitor for more than a few seconds, though, i go in because that's when he's close to crying and i want to try and preempt that since it can take him a while to calm down.

Yep! He loves to sit in there and chat with his puppy blanket and monkey. If he starts to fuss I'll go in, but if he's happy that's a win!

@loveisstrange: hahah I did that too! He went through a phase of getting up before 7am and we would go in and keep laying him back down until 8. Now he hardly ever wakes before 8am.
I know some kids are just naturally early risers and there is no changing that though...

@Mrs. Pen: That's probably true. I think we're probably just lucky. C sleeps in until 8-8:30 usually... although it's gotten a little earlier now that she's out of the crib.

Yes! And it has definitely resulted in her sometimes going back to bed and sleeping for another hour or more

Yep, I'm all about letting her learn to entertain herself for awhile. Happy babble means mama gets a few more minutes to sleep or do whatever else needs doing!
