I always feel obligated to go, and I do, and I always bring a generous gift. I would want others to do the same for my child.

I definitely feel a little obligated but luckily I enjoy parties. Also, I hope my friends will attend our parties in the future!

I'd also feel like I should go. But I'd make my husband go with me. I go to his friends kid's parties with him.

@tequiero21: we have attended every single birthday party for DH's best friend's baby boys. (They're 5 and 3). It's usually family/kid-oriented, so we always go near the end of the party to see our friend, because we don't want to obligate him to have to keep us company with so many family members to attend to... we see them do the cake, get 1 on 1 gift time with the boys, and spend a lil qt with DH's best friend&wife before we take off.

I wouldn't feel obligated, but I love kids parties so I go anyway. If it was a 'couple' friend DH would probably come, but if it's one of my girlfriends, then he likely wouldn't come.

If it's convenient I'll attend. I already have 8 nieces and nephews with 2 more on the way, so the parties are frequent. If it's no more than an hour drive and being held on a weekend I had nothing else going on, I"ll go. But honestly I don't understand why they want me there so bad, it's really a kid thing the adults just kind of stand around eating pizza and watching the kids.

If it was a close friend that I see often, then yes. But if it's a good friend that I see once or twice a year, then no. It's not a good use of my time to attend a kid's party and hang around when in reality, it wouldn't make a difference to them if I was there or not. I would, however, send a gift and my apologies or make a date to drop it off in person. At least that way, I would get more interaction with the family vs. just "being there".

I recently had a birthday party for my LO at a play gym and I invited my childless friends with the disclaimer that they should not feel obligated to go nor do they need to send a gift. But that's just me.
