We don't fish or hunt.
We might try catching crabs, oysters and clams this summer, for the first time. Mmm, raw oysters.
Do you fish, crab, clam or hunt? Or none of the above?

DH goes salmon fishing 1-2 times per year on a charter boat
I grew up going crabbing, fishing and clam digging with my family. I do not enjoy clamming - messy and hard work! I would love to get some crab pots and get some fresh crab.

DH fishes but throws them back because he doesn't eat fish lol & he hunts occasionally but he doesn't look forward to hunting season or anything. We still have deer meat from the one deer he killed last time!

@sandy: Is clamming hard? I love clams so I'm going to try it.
Would love to try crabbing, too.
We are going to the Hood Canal this summer and they have it all.

We love clamming and crabbing! So much fun. We just took LO clamming a few wks ago and had a blast. You do get quite messy though.
Only been fishing a few times. Never caught anything that great. Not a fan of hunting.

@pinkcupcake: So fun! Where do you go clamming and crabbing?

@bluestriped bee: I just remember going clam digging when it was pretty cold (summer months aren't good for clams I think) and so you're wearing all these layers of clothes but getting so wet and muddy from the beach... And you have to dig and be quick and it gets tiring fast!
I've never harvested oysters...I really love raw oysters but I hate shucking them so I prefer to buy them shucked or get them at a restaurant

@sandy: Oh, really? Good to know clams don't like summer months. Oh, you have to dig fast? It does sound tiring.
Eww! Cold and wet doesn't sound like fun.

@bluestriped bee: I've only been out to Hood Canal once - to the Alderbrook Resort. If you have time I highly recommend stopping by the Olympic Mountain Creamery for ice cream - it's the best!

@sandy: A friend told me about Mike's Beach resort on the Hood Canal and I'm excited about going. You can get crabs, clams and oysters. I should probably check to see what is in season when we go.

We fish, clam and crab. I haven't done any of those things in a long time though!

We fish and hunt, and while I hardly consider it in the same category, we do go scalloping most years. We also go gigging, cause we like to keep things redneck.

I used to fish all the time with my dad! It was our "thing" we did any time I had a day off school.

We went scalloping a few summers ago and it was AWESOME! You have to dive for them. My husband also loves to fish but after LO it doesn't happen often.

@bluestriped bee: It's when you use a gig, which looks like a mini trident on a long pole, to stab frogs or fish. You go at night and use a headlamp to search.

@Mrs. Taco: Where did you guys go scalloping out of? We always go out of crystal river.

@BananaPancakes: We went to Crystal River too!!!! We're going to go again this season. Are you in that area?

We're about 40 minutes east of there, but my FIL has a condo on kings bay, so we go most summers. We're going to attempt it for the first time with our son this year. My husband regularly fishes out of yankeetown and homosassa, too.

@bluestriped bee: @sandy: I've done clamming with a clam gun (not a real gun...). Its a giant tube that you push into the sand and then you create a vacuum by closing a hole and hoisting the entire column of sand above ground. It makes clamming pretty easy!
I did it on the WA coast and it was a lot of fun but I haven't been in a few years.

@sunny: I was reading about that. I think the website I was reading was calling it a Clam tube. Do you buy that? Or rent it or something.
I need someone to teach me how to look for clams, oysters and go crabbing. I have no idea.

DH hunts, and we both fish, bow fish, and gig *waves undercover redneck flag*

@bluestriped bee: my friend had them so I just borrowed it. They aren't too expensive though. I looked and it's only about $20.

My husband hunts, and we both like fishing. I don't like touching the fish though, and I don't eat seafood so we throw back if we catch anything.

@Mrs. Taco: I totally responded to you back there but didn't tag you. I'm dumb. And if I remember correctly, you're tampa-ish?
@grizz: Ha ha. We can start a club.

DH is a deer hunter and we both fish. Better luck at deer hunting though

I used to go crabbing with my grandpa in the summers when he was alive. So much fun, and delicious! My dream is to have a house on the river where the oyster farms are, just north of my home town. Fresh oysters in my backyard. Mmmm!
