We're at the airport so we're getting formally addressed a lot! Bee just scored a "miss", so she's not yet a full time ma'am!
Do you get called ma'am a lot? Or are you still a miss?

I think that a lot of employees are now being told to say miss instead of ma'am because ma'am could be offensive to some people. I don't think I've ever been called ma'am!

I'm definitely still a miss but in the South everyone is a ma'am! It's polite to say Yes Ma'am and Yes Sir regardless of age.

50/50, the last time someone called me ma'am at the grocery store I laughed and said "oh come on I'm not that old yet!"

I'm about 50/50. I honestly think most people just have no idea how old I am.
I went for lunch with a coworker last week and she mentioned that she' turning 30 this year. I got excited and said that I'm also turning 30 this year and she was shocked, she thought I was more like 25. Made my week!

I get "Frau" here. I would prefer to get Miss since I really dislike the sound of Ma'am.

I mostly get ma'am... but as others have said, this is the South, so it has nothing to do with age. Even when my LO is acting up I tell her "no, ma'am!"

@MamaMoose: This! I say, ma'am to my 2 year old. We are in the trenches of teaching her ma'am and sir as well. Yes ma'am sounds so much nicer than yah. And I'm not even a born southerner.

I honestly can't remember the last time I was called either! But we live in a very casual area, so that makes sense.

Another Southern gal here - ma'am all the way. I call everyone ma'am as well.
@MamaMoose: I tell DS no sir all the time! haha

@Alivoo01: @Smurfette: @Bookish: @MamaG: Well according to another thread on here today our kids are doomed because we say "no" to them!

Both, but ma'am more often. Makes me feel old. I live in the northeast, so I know it is common in the south to say that, but not as much up here, so when somebody calls me that I truly feel old at 36 yrs old.

I get both, but ma'am still always throws me for a second. Especially when it's a store clerk who's late teens or early 20s and I think, wow I'm really not your age any more, am I? I'm 30.
