Those comments would peeve me too! Those are interesting perspectives on what a wife is supposed to do...

I take care of my husband by taking the socks with holes in them and ripping them apart so they are unwearable :). He buys his own socks.

Those comments would upset me too! DH usually "takes care" of himself but if I'm out and remember he's running out of t-shirts or whatnot I'll pick some up for him but that's only if I remember. Otherwise he's on his own.

I'm a wahm so since I have more availability time if DH needs something I just add it to the grocery list.... I don't keep up with when he needs something though, that's his job to tell me!

I'd be peeved too! My MIL makes comments like that. Not to that extent but she would definitely be asking ME why he didn't have non-holey socks.

My first year of marriage my MIL still was buying my DH underwear and socks and stuff. I was like, that's my job! But, yeah, really it is his job. TBH though, sometimes he's like "yeah, you need new underwear."

I definitely take care of my husband. He's always worked way more hours than me and way harder so I consider it part of my job to take care of him. When it comes to things like socks either I'll just buy them on my own or he'll mention he needs some and we'll go together if he's wanting a different kind than usual. We always buy his clothes together that way he can try them on. I do all the laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc especially now that I'm a stay at home wife (soon to be mom).

That being said..it would still tick me off if someone paid those comments and implied that I wasn't doing a good job of taking care of him.

I would say I "take care" of my husband. He is the sole income earner in our house and works 60+ hours every week, so I end up doing the laundry, cleaning, cooking, buying new socks (or fixing holey ones :P) and that was something we agreed on before we got married.

In saying that, I would be annoyed if someone made comments like that... Because it's none of their business! Deciding what my "wifely duties" are is the business of me and DH!

I would say we "take care" of each other. I barely ever drive if we are going somewhere, don't really pump my own gas, don't often mow the lawn (although I will on occasion), and DH will even go grocery shopping on his own if I don't feel like it (we usually go together). But I was the last one to buy him socks... just because I was already going out shopping. And I do most of the laundry and cleaning. Our motto is to divide and conquer in terms of responsibilities - not "my job" and "his job".

Tbh I'm curious how men's socks get so holey and decrepit. Can't figure it out. Is it just that women have the wits to chuck them when they're frayed while men keep them for another decade or so after that?
I don't look after Dh really, but i would be inclined to grab him socks if I think of it when shopping. I do his laundry most of the time but he does it, and whatever other laundry is around as well sometimes.
If anything here, his mother would be more inclined to tease me for spoiling him, even though I don't at all.

@aunt pol: I think it's because they wear socks more! If you think about it, almost all men's shoes require socks (unless they are sandals. and even then...) but women can get by without them way more.

We definitely take care of each other. Usually I am the one who reminds him about getting new clothes or things like that. Lately though, he is all over anything that I request and has been insanely helpful. Tonight I came home with a headache and he went out to get dinner without me even asking.

I do take care of him, especially when it comes to socks and underwear. I feel like holey shirts, socks, and underwear are a representation of how well I take care of him. Since I'm the one at home doing more errands and I'm the laundry person, it just feels like my job. He also does his share of things where he takes care of me, like always keeping my car clean for me, so I feel like it evens out.

In a way, yes. For instance, he will never, ever, throw away any pair of socks or undies regardless of how holey they are! When he looses his blanket at night, he can never manage to put it back on, even in the dead of winter. He'll lay there trying to cover his body with his hands.

But ... he'll never wear anything I've picked out for him. In fact, he'll go out of his way to wear something else. He refuses to iron his clothes, even for a special occasion (no I won't iron it for him, I hardly iron my own). It used to drive me nuts thinking it would look bad on me, but I stopped caring - he's perfectly fine with it and anyone else can think what they want =)

I have a few quirks of my own, and I guess you can say we sorta take care of each other, but in our own way.

I guess I take care of him. I do all the laundry. DH hates shopping so if I see he needs more socks or underwear, I'll go out and buy them.

DH wears socks until the entire bottoms are missing. He also has undershirts that are disgusting looking. I never have thought of it as my job to replace these things - if he wants to wear normal socks, then he will go buy some! I have encouraged him to do it, but he also has to encourage me to get up and shower on weekends, so I guess we take care of each other.

I take care of my husband to a certain extent... although he buys his own socks!
