I haven't! I was tempted in the past, but glad I never did.

I never have. I've thought about getting a straightening perm but they are so expensive!!

Sadly, yes. My mom used to give me a perm several times a year when I was young (early to mid 80s) because my hair would hold a curl. My sister got away without it because her hair doesn't.

@Bao: word for word this is exactly what I was going to write, hehe.

Never! I wanted a spiral perm in the 5th grade.

When I was like 6...from a box. It looked so bad on me though! Luckily it didn't hold more than a week or two.

Secret coming out here.
I've actually had several perms. I'm rocking one right now.
That being said, its not 80s spiral perm curls. Its just something to give at least a little wave to my stick straight, super fine hair.

@chopsuey119: how did you live your korean-american childhood with no pahmas?!!!
i have had too many to count! i love my korean perms...i'm taking a break right now since i went 7 years straight with permed hair, but i know they'll be back one day...;)

Yup! When I was very young and was doing pageants. My hair doesn't hold a curl so perms were the way to go for me. I got them frequently between the ages of like 7-10?

My mom permed our hair all the time when we were young! I've considered doing it once or twice as an adult...

I had a bunch growing up. Last one I got in Taiwan in college. It was really pricey and I thought it turned out pretty good, but my cousin told me it made me look like his dog. That was my last perm ever!

No. My mom used to have a perm. She has red hair.... and I used to draw her with curly red hair. She looked like a clown

Oh my... bad memories.
My grandma is a beautician (at a nursing home) and when I was younger, I would go to work with her (I loved it!) but while we were there she would perm my hair without asking my mom. I would go home with an old lady perm... Lovely!

Yes, I got a Korean digital perm last summer and I still regret it. My hair is so badly damaged now

My mom used to give me perms all the time and I hated them. I have super fine hair and it would usually burn off a lot of hair so I'd have rows and rows of little short hairs all over my head

No, never. I so wish there was...something that could like, make your hair look all fabulously loose-wavy/big curled... Basically I want my hair to look great without having to do anything...

@redsmarties I feel you! HB is apparently a truth zone bc...
Yes! I have one right now, kind of.
I have naturally curly hair, BUT, like half of my hair is really curly and half is awkward waves. And it's not evenly distributed. So I go in like once every year-eighteen months to get a perm and even it out. But I still only claim the naturally curly, bc it def is. And from what I'm reading above, perms aren't supposed to last a year and a half, but that's where I am now and it's def curly!

I did lots of foolish styles with my hair in the past, but I did not perm. Thank goodness lol

I have had one since I was seven! I have one right now, actually. It's a spiral perm, so it's really natural looking. Most assume I have curly hair, but I have stick straight won't hold a curl hair.

@EBSC: it loosens with time, but it lasts in your hair until you cut it out! Mine is about a year old.

Random thought: it always made me mad in Legally Blonde when she makes her speech in court about how water got rid of the sorority sister's perm in a wet tshirt contest. That could never happen! Water won't ruin it....shampoo will! That's why you can't wash for 24 to 48 hours! Lol...Daughter of a beautician.
