I have a cheapo one my mom picked up for me, I love being able to tell when she has fallen asleep

No mirror for us. The car seat class we took said to not have any thing loose in the car that could become a projectile in an accident. So now I am paranoid.

I do and I love it. I'm totally addicted to it. I try to be very careful that it doesn't distract my driving, though.

Yes! I am totally helpless without it. I like being able to see what DD is up to, and she likes waving at me in the mirror too!

Same as @highwire . I was told not to have a mirror in the car for safety reasons, and I'm afraid to not follow the rules.
nectarine / 2274 posts
@yin: @highwire: was told the same at our carseat inspection with our local police dept. I really want to see LO when I'm driving but have never gotten one after the police dept told us not to. Kinda torn about it.

We have one. I only check it to see if he's fallen asleep when he's not chatty.

Yes we have one. I love it cause even if she is crying I can see if her eyes are closing

I have the Brica one with sounds lights and remote, but I have only used the mirror so far. I'll check when the car is stopped, but I agree it can be distracting.

We don't have one but I always wanted one! I kept thinking, "Nah, we don't neeeeed it"...Maybe I'll get one for LO2.

We have one and LOVE it. We took a 14 hour road trip when she was 3 months old and it was a lifesaver. I'm not worried about it as a projectile - it's tethered via the latch system. If it's safe to hold the weight of a carseat, I don't know why a little Brica mirror would be a problem? The strap is too short for it to hit her while attached.

Yes we have one and we dont think we could live without it. our DD likes to look at it too and sometimes she talks to herself

I have a cheap Brica one. I love it! I couldnt live without it.

We don't have one - I think I would be too distracted by looking at it all the time while driving ... I know my husband would be

Yes, I have this one http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000SY73QM?tag=theshopstoress-20 I bought when C was a baby. It clips onto my rearview mirror, it's better for forward facing babies.

I have the brica one too and love it! can't believe i took two 300 mile roadtrips when DS was about 3 months old without one!

My friend who is a social worker and had to take a carseat safety class told us the same thing as some pp, that it was a safety risk and we shouldn't have it. I had just bought one and she convinced me to return it.

We have one and love it! My friend said one time she saw her DD pull her hair clip out and put it in her mouth. My gf saw from the mirror and immediately pulled over to take it out. Thank goodness for back seat mirror! I think as long as you are careful it's worth having.

This is perfect timing. We bought one, but in our carseat class we were advised not to use it. It's a brica that attaches securely, and at this point, I'm ready to not sit in the backseat with her anymore, but not ready to not be able to see her at all (she's only 2 weeks). We will probably put it in the car tomorrow before an hour long drive to see family.
Glad to see that others have one and like it!

We have a cute little one with monkies! I love it. I can't imagine not being able to check on her while driving around. I have a ridiculous SIDS fear.
I honestly can't see how it could ever possibly hurt her - it weighs maybe half a pound & is made of fabric & lightweight plastic.

nope, for the same reason as @highwire. anything loose can become a projectile and will maim your child (or so the child safety instructor said). Now I'm too nervous!!
pomelo / 5331 posts
We have the Brica one. It both velcros and straps onto the headrest, it's pretty secure! And he loves looking at himself in it.
pear / 1664 posts
We have one. I got it as a handmedown. As for it being a projectile, We'll just make sure it's strapped on well. I mean, they say anything loose in the car can be a projectile. Well, what about my ice scraper that I keep on the floor? Or my heavy leather handbag? Or diaper bag? Or my metal coffee mug? Or the myriad of other crap that I might have lying around loose in my car at any given time (Big sack of canned cat food after a trip to Petco, perhaps?) I'd be more worried about those than this ultra-light-weight padded fabric-lined plastic fake mirror, ya know?

yes, the brica one! got it at target. I love it. she likes to talk to herself too, which is nice.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@photojane: I have that one but I keep it on our PnP for H to stare at himself with
We have one in the back of the car but I need another one! Two babies, two mirrors. And maybe that one that sticks to the glass so I can see both of them. Hmmmm.

I am a Car Seat Technician and @highwire is right! Any add ons or aftermarket parts are unsafe and considered a projectile in the event of a crash. We could get into the details of what could happen but I am sure it is easy for anyone to imagine the impact something that size could have during even a 30mph collision. Please reconsider if it is truly necessary because it is genuinely dangerous.

I have a brica one as well. My DS spit up a lot as a newborn and there were several times I could see him and would need to pull over even though I couldn't hear him.
squash / 13199 posts
we have a car seat mirror. I believe having the mirror is less of distraction because I can see at a glance what is going on and not have to be in the dark while she is screaming her head off
pomegranate / 3452 posts
OK, we're on the fence with the mirror debate now. Somebody want to push me over either edge?
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
mine is actually attached to the latch anchor behind the seat!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: do it!!! I love seeing when she falls asleep so I know how long she naps for.
