I have several of both, and I like the heated blankets better. I actually love mine so much that I use it during the summer too - I just looove being warm and toasty

@MamaMoose: i'm kind of afraid of one burning me while i sleep, but i think i could get over it quickly
@swurlygurl: what do you like better about the blanket vs. the mattress pad?
honeydew / 7091 posts
@mrs. bird: The pads have never warmed me up very much. It feels like they're warming the mattress below them instead of me. Also, you can't escape the heat of the pad, but you can with the blanket. I like to stick my leg out of the blanket sometimes to feel the cold air

@swurlygurl: good points! do you layer it between your sheet & comforter or do you use it as a top blanket? the pictures have them like they're on top with no comforter, but that's probably just so you see it better, i assume it's safe to have it between your other layers, right?

@mrs. bird: In the winter I use it between sheets and comforter. In the summer I use it on top of sheet, no comforter. I might be making this up, but I think you need a blanket on top of the heated blanket to trap the warmth - which is why I leave it uncovered in the summer, because I'm just looking for a tiny bit of warmth - but, I make up my own science so take that with a grain of salt... haha

We have a heated blanket that we actually put under the fleece sheets like a heated pad. It says you're not supposed to do that, but we do it anyways. We use it to heat up the bed a bit before we get into it and then shut it off before we fall asleep. The super heavy down blanket we have is more than enough to keep us warm after that. We just need a little kick start.

We have both. DH got a heated blanket from my parents for Christmas one year. I think the same Christmas, he got us the heated mattress pad. It's awesome. We haven't used it much since I was pregnant and with LO. I hope that we use it again in the future.

@MamaMoose: I'm pretty sure that the heated mattress pads have a timer, so that won't happen. I expressed these concerns to DH before he actually got the mattress pad for us.

My husband would burst into flames if we had anything hearing the bed.

No, I'm scared of them too! And I prefer the weight of several heavy blankets to lighter and perhaps warmer blankets.

I have a mattress pad and it is divine!!! I turn it on at 730 and get in bed around 9-930 and its soooo toasty! I have it high to heat up then on 4 while I sleep. It does have a timer and shuts off after 10 hours.

@mrs. bird: I just got one a couple weeks ago at Target! I've been talking about getting one for years and DH always throws a fit because he thinks I'll burn the house down. The one I got was $29 and has an automatic shut off (IDK how long...). I looooove it, and so does the dog. I have only been using it on the couch because we have a memory foam mattress and it holds heat really well.

@PurplePumps: genius! i didn't even think of that! if you get the mattress pad, it's only a mattress pad, but you could always put the blanket below you.
@Shutterbug: sweet! i have a sprinkler system in the building, if something goes wrong, that'll take care of it now i kinda wanna go get your throw one for the couch.... i was going to TRU & wegmans in a moment, gah! why isn't there a target right in that plaza?? they need to fix that. it's too yucky out for multiple stops, but i might make an exception because the stop will make me warmer when i get home

We have one! It's sooooo nice because the weather has been in the single digits lately. We use our blanket to pre-heat the bed (we layer it under our comforter too) and then turn it off when we climb in. I even put it over the pillows to warm them up too. It is SO cozy!

I do, but I only use it when relaxing on the couch and not in bed. I'm a hot sleeper, so it would seriously overheat me!

I have a heated blanket and I am glued to it in the winter. I drape it over my couch and i just sit on it. It has an auto shutoff so its impossible to leave it on.
