There were ALWAYS books in our home, my mom read every day, and I saw her reading instead of TV, or at least during commercials. We used to go to the library every two or three weeks. And we got at least one new book every Christmas (money was tight).
I came by it honestly.

I've always loved reading, for as long as I can remember. One of my favorite memories is my mom reading Little Women to me. I remember using my allowance & babysitting money to buy books instead of toys/clothes/makeup. I hope our future kids will love books and reading as much as I do.

I've always loved reading as well =) My mom took my brother and I to the library ever since I can remember. My favorite were the books on tape =)

I read like it's my job, but actually, it is my job--I'm a phd student seriously though, I read all day long every day. Unless I have to teach or grade papers. I've always been a big reader, my parents read to me a lot, though I didn't learn to read to myself until 1st grade. I get completely lost in novels sometimes, I actually can't let myself read too much on vacations with dh bc I get too wrapped up in them to appreciate "us" time, I didn't bring a single book on our honeymoon because of it.

I don't remember being read to, but then again, I don't remember a lot of things! I remember the library, though. My mother was going for English lessons and I would go to the reading groups for kids. I think that's where my love affair with books began.

I loved reading and loved buying books. My parents wouldn't let us watch TV so the only thing I could do that they absolutely approved of had to be school or education related so I turned to books. No one ever read to me when I was a kid but I found the love of reading on my own.

Absolutely! I LOVE to read! It's one of my favorite hobbies (up there with watching TV). Our living room is full of bookcases with all my books (and I need another bookcase soon...). My mom used to read to us (my brother and me) when we were little. I remember snuggling up to her while she read The Hobbit to us. I'm guessing that's where my love of reading came from. I hope that my children love to read too.

Both DH and I are bookworms. Both our parents taught us to read before we entered school, and read with us throughout childhood. Books were given at Christmas/birthday/other holidays. TV time was very restricted (and we never were allowed to have TVs/game systems in our bedrooms, even at high school age), and reading was really encouraged. I do remember going to the library with my mom every weekend, as far back as I can remember.

Does it bum anyone else out when a friend posts a pic to FB that shows what looks like bookshelves, so you zoom in on the pic to see what books they’ve got, and it turns out to be all DVDs/movies/cds? That always bums me out, I don’t trust people without books in their homes LOL

I love reading. We always have tons of books in my home. My love for reading comes from my love for stories and my mom would always tell me a story at bedtime. As I got older she told me to read my own stories and I was hooked.

My mom ALWAYS read to me. We always had books around our house. She used to read to me every night and then when I got old enough, she made me read to her. My mother loves to read and passed it on to all three of us. I read just for pure enjoyment.

I love the creativity that involved in reading a book. If I'm reading, then my mind is creating the picture of the story and filling in the details. It's much more mentally stimulating than watching a movie. If I have a choice between see a movie or read the book, I'll read the book every time.

I love to read, but my parents and siblings are not the same way so I'm not sure where I got it! I do know my parents read to me when I was little, but I think I was just lucky to learn how to read pretty young and have parents who indulged my love of reading by buying me books and letting me loose in the library.

I really enjoy reading. Although over the past year haven't been reading as much as I usually would.

Growing up I remember my parents reading all the time. I think seeing them read so often had a pretty big impact. My Dad would also always read to me and my brother before bed. I remember how much I loved listening to his voice with my head on his chest, it sounded so neat! His reading to us heightened my appreciation for books and looking back was great bonding time. Last, my Mom always made sure to put a book in our stockings at Christmas. It was something we always looked forward to, she always picked the best books!

I could sit and read for hours, I don't have a lot of time to do that during the school year while I'm teaching but I make up for it in the summer. My mom is an avid reader so my passion for books came from her. We would read the newspaper together on the bus on the way to school everyday and she always had a book with her no matter where we were and that stuck with me.

I LOVE reading. My husband bought me a Kindle a couple Christmases ago and it's one of the favorite gifts he's given me. I also look forward to the used book sale our local library has twice a year. My parents read to me from the time I was in the womb. LOL! I learned to read quickly and have always been an advanced reader for my age, probably largely in part because of that.

My husband, on the other hand, is so-so about reading. Reading, for him, is more something you do when you're in the bathroom for a long time or when it's slow at work. He DOES like it when I read to him, (we are reading "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" at bedtime right now). But I would say he has no love of reading. His parents really didn't read to him much growing up; he was always outside playing, which is important, too. Also, he had a lot of energy growing up, (if he had been born ten years or so later, he probably would have been on Ritalin). Not sure if they didn't read to him because he didn't have the attention span for it, or if he didn't have the attention span because they didn't read to him.

I LOVE to read to children, (my mom does daycare, and I have babysat for years), and I really look forward to doing so with my (hopeful) future children!

I've always loved reading. My parents were readers. They would take my sister and me to the library every other Saturday and I'd get a huge stack of books to last until our next visit. My mom insists my eyesight is so bad because I spent too much time reading when I was little.

If I am not in the middle of a book, I am a very unhappy camper!

My parents read to me all the time, and my dad and uncle used to record themselves reading books on cassette tapes and play it for eachothers kids at bedtime.

I have to give most of the credit to my mom though- she was the "bad guy" who forced me to read The Boxcar Children for 15 minutes a day one summer and wouldn't let me play outside until it was done. I HATED it, but then I really got into it, and couldn't get enough of books. Later on she shared her Harlequin romance novels with me

I will probably be heartbroken if our kids aren't big readers.

Yes, my parents read to me when I was little. I can still quote two of my favorite poems that I made my dad read to me many many many times before going to bed each night:

"A little light is going by,
is going up to see the sky;
A little light with wings.
I never could have thought of it
to have a little bug all lit
and made to go on wings."

and

"A great gray elephant,
a little yellow bee,
a tiny purple violet,
a tall green tree,
a red and white sailboat

heh.

We would go to the library to borrow books all the time, and my mom used to work in a children's bookstore. I love the memories I have of it all.

I loved reading for pleasure but I hated reading required books for school.
