Oh yeah definitely no phones at dinner

Yep. Dinner time is for dinner, conversation and eating. No technology, no toys, no books.

@mrbee: They tend to miss a lot of memo's.... lol.

I think we'll have one (no technology or distractions at all) when the time comes, but it'll be hard for us. DH checks his fantasy football constantly if it's a football day. And I frequently pull mine out to show him things I've found online, funny pictures, stuff I like, etc. But there's no real way to explain to a fairly young kid that that's okay, but texting/playing/whatever isn't. So we'll probably have a blanket ban until they're old enough.

Though now that I think about it, I always read when eating alone. So it may be just a rule about no distractions during family dinners, with some sort of caveats for other meals. I'm not giving up my reading when I'm eating forever!

DH and I don't have a "rule" persay...but there's an understanding that if we're eating together (we work different hours so it's not every night), we're not on technology. Especially if we go out. He'll leave his phone in the car and mine stays in my purse...unless we're talking after the meal and want to share something we saw or google something as part of a discussion.

We both try not to use our phones. We purposely leave them on the bar area and don't bring them to the table. I do snap an occasional pic if one of them is doing something especially funny/cute and we sometimes we will play music but no checking email, social media, texting, etc.

I hate the idea that possibly some day LO will draw pictures of us and we'll have phones in our hands. Ugh!

I wish we did! I tend not to, but dh is bad, just last night we were out for a little celebratory dinner and he was texting!!?! In an effort to keep the mood happy I didn't bring it up, but may do so a little later....

Yeah no phones just eating!

Yes. Nothing is so important you can't spend 20 minutes eating dinner sans phone. Even when my husband is on call he knows...no phone at the table during meals.

Well we don't have any rules as such but the dinner table has always been for eating and conversation. I think my family would find it pretty strange if anything, technology or not, was brought to the table.

@Mrsk: my DH is the same way. He's better if there's actually food in front of him but God forbid he look at & talk withe while we wait for food....we're working on it.

We definitely do no phones or TV while eating as a family!

Not specifically but neither of us are prone to using our phones during meals so it isn't an issue. Exception would be if we are in a restaurant then sometimes we'll use our phones to look up stuff we're chatting about.

@Mrs. Sunshine: yes! The waiting around for Food seems to be boring so he's on his phone, ha! I guess making conversation with me it's too interesting. Now that I think of it, if we are out with others he isn't on his phone, I think he must just be so used to and confirtable with me... Maybe I'll bring it up and ask if no phones at dinner is something we can do!
