I think I am going to let her wean. I will probably stop pumping at one year, though. All of this is contingent upon my body allowing this to happen, of course!

She is almost 9 months, and I can't imagine just flipping a switch and making her stop. I will be going back to work when she turns 1 and I won't be pumping for her during the day so I'm just going to let it ride and see where we go

I don't have a set date but I'm aiming for 18-24 months. If he weans before that I might try to pump even just once a day.
@TurtleDoves: are you not EP anymore?!?!

@Mrs. Pen: nope girlfriend!!! We made it work...thank God:) I do still pump for the occasional bedtime bottle and/or outing to give my breasts a recovery period.

We're in the self-wean camp. I'll continue to offer until P reaches 2 & then let her decide. I'm not sure when we plan on ttc for our next but I would LOVE to tandem nurse!

I'm not interested in bf'ing more than a year/when I go back work.
For now I'm keeping my bf'ing hopes short, Jan 1st! When we get there, will set a new goal date!
Ideally she'll wean herself within the year!
coconut / 8498 posts
We'll let her wean herself, but will probably start cutting down on the nursing sessions not long after a year.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
I stopped pumping after a year but will let her wean after that. My supply is really low at 15 months so she understands when I say no or it's all gone
pomelo / 5093 posts
My plan is self weaning, and at almost 15 months she sill nurses frequently. I've not yet gotten pregnant, though, and I know the great feeding isn't helping. I may have to make a hard choice soon about weaning or giving up my hopes for close spacing.

I'd like to BF for at least a year. I'll decide what to do when I get to that 1 year point. I'm only 2 months in right now.

I am going to let her wean herself. Even if it means night nursing when she is 7.
Just kidding.

I wanted to let him wean when he is ready but my supply is slowly dropping. He is 8.5 months old and I may start the weaning process around 10 months if I can make it that long. I can only pump one time at work and I hate taking time to pump at home. I feel like it takes away from the time I have to spend with him during the week which isn't much. Right now we only nurse in the morning and at night during the week. We mostly nurse on the weekends but supplement if he still seems hungry.

@TurtleDoves: omg that's amazing!!! I smiled reading that - soo happy for you! Go baby turtledoves :):)

Baby and I are still having feeding issues at almost eight weeks so I'm just hoping to breast feed for as long as I can.
All going well I guess I'll just keep feeding as long as Baby wants to feed!

My goal is at least a year, hoping to make it that long and let her do her thing!

My goal is one year for Baby 2! Hope I don't get pregnant before that!

At 18 months I'm trying to encourage her to eat more and drink more from a cup. She had been doing good before she got molars but she got molars at 16 months, all four one after the other, and became a lil nursing machine. So I'm trying to gently encourage a bit less nursing. My hope was that I'd get pregnant and my supply would go down. But that doesn't seem to be happening with her still nursing so frequently.

I let DS dictate.
I stopped pumping during the day at work because it was taking up so much of my work time and I wasn't really producing much during the day. This was at 9 months when we started reverse cycling. Not too much fun with my work schedule but I loved nursing him too much to stop. It was our time together during the work week. He slowly started sleeping longer stretches until he just slept through the night. I was still nursing him before bed and in the morning, but he started he refusing those feedings in favor of playtime and other things by 11 months. I would've kept going if he did. I miss it!

I hoped to go to a year but only made it five months...

LO just turned a year and we are still BF/pumping. I am planning to pump until christmas when we are traveling so I can continue to BF full time, then day wean when we get back. Stopping pumping will be my christmas present to myself!
As far as fully weaning, I am hoping to follow her lead but maybe by 18 months to be done? We'll see...
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
I let LO go for as long as she wanted. She still asks for it and I think she's getting colostrum.
Baby boy.. will be weaned the day he turns 1! I'm so excited to have my body back.

I'm planning to night wean by a year and fully wean before two. I nursed TG to 17 months.

Two weeks from now..she will be 23 mos...and I want to completely wean by two years.

self wean if i have my way. we'll see what happens when i head back to work though,

His decision with the exception of night weaning, that one is my decision. We are in the middle of re-night weaning... we had it, then he got sick and we went on vacation, and we fell back into it again.
My original goal was 1 year, but that came so fast, I'm not willing to let it go yet. Everyone seems to have the perception that I'm jumping ship on his birthday, grrr. We'll get around to weaning when the time is right.
At 11 months, he doesn't want to nurse nearly as often, especially since he loves real food. Plus we want to add to the family soon, so we are seeing what happens. We have a big freezer stash, so he will have breast milk for some time regardless.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: LOL. My cousin stopped nursing her daughter at age 5--but at that point it wasn't even a daily thing. It was almost more of an "Oh, can I have some mommilk?" And by the time she prepared her shirt the daughter forgot about it.No clue how she kept up her supply nursing so occasionally.
I plan to do EVERYTHING in my power to make it to a year, and moderate effort to make it to 2 years.
honeydew / 7589 posts
I'm planning on breastfeeding until age 2 if LO still wants to, and after that we will see. I think sometime during LO's second year it will quit, one way or another.
cantaloupe / 6164 posts
baby girl isn't here yet, but right now the plan is to start weaning between 6-9 months old. as she starts eating more solids, i'll bf less. we may make it to a year, but i do know that i don't want to go longer than that.
pear / 1728 posts
My goal was a year, then allow self-weaning. Liv is 16.5 months and still going strong, but I think Im ready to be done. She shows NO interest in weaning, so Im going to have to do it. We just moved into a new house though, so I need to get through that adjustment period first. Shes down to bedtime, wakeup, and the "yay mama is home from work! Now gimme milkies" sessions now lol.

My goal is 12 months for now and then I will stop pumping. Right now we are at 7.5 months so its looking good.
pomelo / 5866 posts
@Mrsbells: I stopped pumping at 12 mos and work full time. Thought I would dry up. Supply has been good..almost at two years.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
I think my 'goal' is about 6 months. We'll have to see with work and everything. I'm not keen on staying a bunch of extra hours to make up for all the time lost, when i could be spending it at home with her! But it heavily, heavily depends on how easy it comes to me and how feasible it is. If it's just going well, it'll be much easier to keep going. But i'm not going to set myself a lofty goal and then get disappointed
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
I'm honestly not sure! I never saw myself breastfeeding past a year, so we will see. I definitely want to pump if she self-weans before a year.
grapefruit / 4110 posts
He is getting cut off at 2. I personally never imagined going this long (19 months) but we have. I'm gonna start cutting one feed a month until we are done. I don't think he would self wean. I wanna try for the next in August and have to be done breast feeding in order to do the FET.
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
My goal was 6 months and we made that. I'm going to keep going until my supply runs low. It's hard pumping because I have a very demanding job and have to travel for work between DC and CA. Soooo, we will see how long I can keep it up.
pomegranate / 3980 posts
I think I will let her decide when she is done but I hope she is done before 2 years old lol...
