We were talking with some friends the other day that said they budget an amount of play money they are comfortable spending each week/month for dinners out, coffee, and other impulse things.....
They take the cash out and just get it from there and if it is out well so is there fun.... loll

We budget money per month to eating out (usually $150 a month for random dinners, but more if we have plans to go out with friends or to celebrate a birthday or something).
And we budget either $50 or $100 for each of us every month for fun spending money. We keep a pretty tight budget so our spending money is for fun things we don't have to run by each other, like books, Starbucks, or nail polish.

For us a weekly limit would be impractical bc each week is so different. Like @My Only Sunshine: said, we have a monthly dining out budget, and monthly entertainment budget, and then we each have a monthly $40 "personal allowance".... for me, I spend most of my allowance on clothes, and he spends it on fast food or shoes.

So both our checks are direct deposit into our joint account then each week we get $75 for personal spending.... I do all the budgeting re the joint account and pay the bills and each week I set $50 as Fun money - if we dont spend it, it gets absorbed back into the account - but its for meals out, activities like movies, etc

I put $20 every 2 weeks into my Spending Money budget. I use that for eating out, getting lunch/coffee at work, or any activities that I need to pay for for D.

Yes - we've done something similar; budgeting a certain amount for eating out/coffee/beer for the month and it definitely helps if we have the cash put aside for that in an envelope.

We have personal accounts for allowance and a joint account for bills, groceries, etc. We get a set amount out of each paycheck for allowance. That includes eating out. We are on a strict budget and this works well for us!

Another vote for monthly. I give myself a discretionary amount and assign a certain amount for kids activities/treats too.

We include a fun money column in our budget. Also in our budget DH and I get out own money to spend however we want. It works for us.

I don't. I have totally cut out that "extra" spending during the week and only buy lunch and breakfast 2 days a week now.
Everything else that gets purchased is categorized into a budget item.

@Meowkers: Same here. My husband and I aren't budget people. We just adjust our spending according to how much we have in the bank.

We did this for about a year but fell off, gonna start back up soon now that I'm working so we can build up our savings again

Nope. We are conscious about what we spend but we don't set specific budget amounts. If I want to go to Starbucks, I go, guilt free, without having to check a budget.

Yes, we take out cash and "fun money" at the beginning of the month. The fun money will also go towards purchases that may seem unnecessary/extravagant to the other. We also only take out cash once a month to prevent multiple ATM withdrawals we can't track/account for...it goes towards coffee/lunches/etc.

Monthly. It goes way too fast. It also includes clothes and personal eating out. Then we have a separate budget for events which includes admissions, treat outs, gifts and eating out together.

No "limit" exactly but we do track all our spending so we know what's going out and we do have a budget we follow. For example, we have a certain monthly amount for eating out, so that spending goes into that category. We have an "entertainment" monthly budget for stuff like movies out, DH golf, drinks with friends, etc. And, we do have some unallocated money for stuff like Starbucks, etc. that we don't really track. We have a certain amount of $ sent aside for stuff like clothes if one of us needs it. We both feel better tracking/budgeting our spending. We always know exactly where all our money goes!

We each have a monthly budget to spend as we choose and then a separate amount to spend on dates, going out, etc.
