I found a Childcraft book on the street and brought it home and read it to Charlie. He was sooo into it! I was obsessed with the Childcraft series as a child, so I just bought the whole set on ebay.
This is one of the most nostalgic books/series for me because I read them over and over again!

Oh, there are so many. Luckily, my folks kept most of my storybook collection, so I am sure she'll be experiencing some of my favorites. I'm really looking forward to reading aloud The Little House books, and Mrs. Piggle Wiggle.

We're reading Little House on the Prairie... I read those so many times as a kid. It's been really cool to read them to C and now she's reading them to me!

@Mrs. High Heels: i love roald dahl! my favorite book is actually a collection of short stories called the wonderful story of henry sugar. i must have read it 100 times!
Not that many people know it though!

Well, I have two boys so I don't think they'll want to read Judy Blume or Beverly Cleary books.

Good question. The Phantom Tollbooth and The Secret Garden are the first that come to mind. I am also excited for him to read Encyclopedia Brown

Not sure what age was in mind, but some of my all time favorites were the Anne of Green Gables series, Where the Red Fern Grows, Call of the Wild, White Fang, Julie of the Wolves, A Dog Called Kitty, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Black Beauty - definitely an animal theme here!

Phantom tollbooth for sure, and the Little House books. My husband is Australian and we live here, he is SO excited to read snugglepot and cuddlepie, a total aussie classic that was his favourite book until he was way too old for it to be his favourite book!

Caps for Sale, which we used to read to LO all the time! She loves it as much as I did. Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters will be next, it's a little advanced for her but I can't wait to read it to her.

I'd hoped Roger Bandy by Ruth Park, but it appears ot have been out of print for 25 years and is now both hard to find and pricey.
My mother says she may have it in storage, so is trying to find it for us.

@Mamasig: My husband was a big fan of the Ramona books as a child. He also liked the American Girl books. So there's hope!

@Mrs. Bee: I actually thought about this the other day. I loved loved loved The Babysitter's Club books when I was about 8, and I was momentarily sad that LO will be a boy who won't read them!!! Then I realized its probably not likely a little girl would read what I liked in the 1990s anyway 
Not any more likely than I was to read my mom's old Nancy Drew books!!!
