We celebrate with our friends who are Japanese. If I understand correctly, New Years is really important in Japan.

Black eyed peas and hog jowls is what I grew up eating. Now I just try to have blak eyed peas... I have no idea how to cook hog jowls...

Growing up, my dad made sure we ate black eyed peas and that we ran a load of laundry that has something from each of us in the load. He was from the south and these were traditions he grew up with.
