Yup, we needed it to have him put on my insurance. We only had 30 days after birth to get it and submit it to the benefits office.

They never mailed one to us, but before a trip we went to city hall and picked up the certified copy. Took less than half an hour!

Yes, they mailed it to us by the time he was a month old. Otherwise who knows when we would have gone to pick it up!

We got DD1's right away, but never received DD2's so we had to request it - pain! Just got it!

Yep, both of them! C has a UK birth certificate and a certificate of birth abroad from the US.

yes - I had to get it in case we needed it to fly (we did, on the way home!)
when I applied for it, they asked my reason for needing it - I didn't realize you needed a reason? kind of weird.

No cause we have to order it. I keep forgetting to get a cashiers check to mail in the form.

No birth certificate yet but LO is only 10 days old. We got our marriage certificate absurdly fast so I'm thinking the birth certificate will take its sweet time.

Yes. Ours came in the mail right away, but they spelled my last name wrong! So I had to wait a few weeks until they processed a new one and had to send the wrong one back so they could send the corrected one.

At about six months I realized we never ordered it! We have it now. Oops!
