My big sister from my sorority was on an HGTV show. She had years of struggles with contractors "fixing" her roof. She finally had John DeSilva and a few other people come out to her house, fix the problem and renovate her kitchen and family room. It was an amazing transformation to her old house!!

A coworker was on House Hunters. Kind of ruined the show for me though, to realize how the behind-the-scenes worked

An ex's aunt and uncle were on, but I can't remember the name of the show. It was 3 couples who had renovated their bathrooms and then someone from HGTV judged who did the best job with their budget and the winner got their renovation paid for. They did not win.

ETA: It was called Bang For Your Buck.

My husband's coworker was on House Hunters. He gave us the inside scoop on how its all fake!

I've had a family member on House Hunters International and a friend on My First Place (not sure if that's on HGTV or not)

A high school friend was on House Hunters. Add me to the list of sads when I learned how fake it is.

Not HGTV, but an old co-worker was on This Old House, and my friend's uncle is on there a lot because he owns one of the tree/landscaping companies they use all the time.

I am ALWAYS on the lookout for the fill-in-the-blank (House, Yard, Bath, Kitchen) Crashers people when I go to Home Depot or Lowes.

No, but my husband spotted a House Hunters couple in the wild once We were getting on the Subway, and he was like, "Hey, there's the couple we just saw on 'House Hunters!'" He went over to ask them about it, and he was right. We spent the whole Subway ride chatting with them about it, haha.

Friends from college were on International House Hunters

I was contacted by a producer for House Hunter's International on 2 separate occasions (different person, different branch) only because they apparently need more stories in my current country. The first time was before we started house hunting and the second was years after we got our house.

In our case, they were willing to deal with the fact that we're already settled into our home and the deal would have been about renovations. We highly considered it, and would probably still consider it if they take us (we're getting renovations done next year). But I don't know how I'd feel about telling our story to the public.
