Bridget. I have no idea why they would consider it since it is not even close to my name or any other name in our family.

Sunshine. No joke. My dad talked my mom out of that one and I ended up with a super normal name. No offence to any sunshine bees - I am definitely not a Sunshine!

My name was Frances for three days before they changed it to what it is now.

This thread is so funny. My parents wanted Davd if I was a boy....and I ended up marrying one, so they got a son named David in the long run.
The alt girl name was Sydney, which is definitely not me.

The only one I know is Daphne. My mom loved that name, but was afraid people would call me Daffy Duck, who was far more popular then than now.

I don't know what they had picked out for if I was a boy, but I know they considered Melanie- I wish they'd gone with Melanie, lol. It's awkward sitting in a waiting room and being called back by "Regiiiina," with a long 'I' sound, rhyming with vagina. Ugh.

@Rubies: I like both names! You should use Frances for a future LO!

I was going to be David if I was a boy and up until a few weeks before I was born I was supposed to be Valerie Lynn. But then my dad's grandmother Clara passed away and they decided to name me after her (though not Clara or Claire).

My mum wanted to call me Andrea. I think Id rock Andie as a nick name.

I would have been Diego had I arrived with other parts.
Funnily my parents had a boy and girl name picked out for each of us and despite never having a boy had three different boy names picked.

They thought about Emma, which is super similar to my name, Anna. Not terribly creative!

I was supposed to be Katherine (Kate), but my cousin was Catherine first, so my parents went with the Gaelic version.

Not sure about a boys name but they liked Marina, but my grandma ruined it by telling my mom it was a brand of TP - haha.

My mom heard of the name Justine for the first time a few months after I was born, and says she would have named me that if she had heard of it before I was born!

I was supposed to be Victoria Renee. The day before my due date my dad declared he hated the name and couldnt picture me as a Vicky or a Tori. I was nameless for a few hours my dad ran out to grab McDonalds for dinner and the girl that waited on him was named Stephanie. He got back to the hospital and suggested that to my mom she loved it and thats how i got my name. Thank you teenager working at McDonalds in August 1984!
If i was a boy i would have been Thomas Christian, which ended up my brother's name.
@lovehoneybee: my husband loves the name Siobhán we considered it but ultimately are going with Fiona

My mom wanted Stormy, which would have be absolutely ridiculous with my maiden name. I would have liked it though, it suits me.

My mom really wanted to name me Eleanor, DH laughs everytime we talk about it.

My mom still has her old baby name book!
Parents' girl picks:
Amanda, Blair
Parent's boy picks:
Geoffrey, Hunter

The other names my parents considered were Abigail, Allison and Tonia. My name is no where close to any of them.

@autumnlove: Snap with Andrew. Throughout her pregnancy my Mum thought she was having a boy.

Yep,my mom came up with my name and my dad liked Ahmad if I were a boy.

They considered Ariel (so odd for our family), but reconsidered because they were afraid I'd be called "airhead". Little Mermaid came out shortly after, and I'm a red head, so I dodged a bullet there for sure.

Mom wanted Allegra, but dad said no. If I were a boy, I might have been Dylan.

My mom wanted to name me Colleen Alexandra. I didn't know this until recently, after naming my son Cole Alexander!
(Alexander was my mom's dad).
If I was a boy they liked Scott. Yuck.

I was supposed to be Samantha. Then one of my mom's friends came to see us at the hospital and convinced my mom that everyone would think of Bewitched. I'm glad it got changed because while I like Samantha I don't like Sam or Sammy for a girl. Mom says that if I were a boy I would have been Gregory but dad says he never agreed to that.
papaya / 10473 posts
They didn't like any other girl name for me. The boy name they had picked was Benjamin Lewis.
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
I know the boy name, cause my brother got it not sure about other girls..i think it's listed in my baby book though. they also disagreed about spelling til the last minute i guess.

They had my name in mind through the first two pregnancies, then they thought Katherine, but my cousin was named that first. I'm sure if I were a boy, I would have been Michael (my brother's name....he is the 7th one in a row!)
Edit:I see I posted here before! Whoops!

Since my mom had my older brother's name picked since high school, she let Dad name me. He really wanted to go with Molly, but my maiden name also starts with an M and they were worried about the M&M nickname. (Which I really don't think would be that bad.) I was Alyssa for a day or so in the hospital, until my grandma came to visit and promptly called me Alisha. Not wanting to deal with the correction my whole life, Alyssa was changed, though they didn't settle on Jessica for another day or so, causing the hospital nurses to refer to me as "poor little baby no name." Mom said it made her feel like some sort of cave woman.
My middle name was a whole other speed bump in naming with distant relatives coming out of the woodwork to insist the name Ray was bad luck and I would die prematurely. So much drama!

I was almost Zarabeth or, if a boy, Jesse Huron (like the Great Lake).
I'd like to suggest that they were smoking a bit too much weed in the 70's...

My parents were considering Jared and Charles, if I were a boy. My actual name was the only one in consideration for a girl.

My family belonged to hunting and fishing club that restricted membership to men. They really wanted me to be be able to join even though I was a girl, so, they only considered gender neutral names. Jesse Jean was the runner up -- I'm glad it lost.
papaya / 10343 posts
I would have been Kevin James had I been a boy. Also my grandma lobbied hard for Kathleen Jean (especially bc I was born on her birthday), but luckily my mom vetoed that. haha
pomelo / 5257 posts
I think they considered Ryan whether I was a girl or boy. My name is also gender neutral, so I guess that's what they were going for
