Yep, Mom wanted to name me Robin, but DaD thought people would call me bird brain.

I was almost a Veronica! I definitely don't look like a Veronica. I don't know what Veronica's look like (sounds like an exotic, sultry name to me). But I definitely don't fit that!

If I was a boy my dad wanted to name me Jay Earl and also had Louise in mind for a girl name.
Dodged a bullet there! He named me and even though he got the inspiration for my name from a police report (yes, for real) he picked a good one. I love my unique name.

My dad wanted to name a daughter Reagan for years, but by the time I was born Reagan was president. They decided against it. I actually think it's a pretty name, but naming a kid the same thing as a sitting president is probably inadvisable.

Heather. I don't look like a heather though. My mom changed her mind last minute.

The other girls name they considered was Rachel. My sister came along many years later so they had another chance & used the name.

It was between my first and middle name. So it could have been opposite.

I would have been Scott or Ryan if I was a boy. My mom also thought I would be blonde and had the name KellyAnn picked out for me. But I was born with thick dark hair and that didn't fit the name. Too bad I haven't been a brunette since I entered high school!
@lovehoneybee: oh so Irish!! My married last name is Irish and id love a nice Irish name for my future kids.

Timber. My grandmother put a stop to that one. I would have been teased so much! She was going to name me Zachary if I was a boy.
I ended up with a T name that is unique, but not as out there as Timber.

@Smurfette: hahaha!
I have no idea. My mom thought I was a boy the whole time. My name is Angela, so maybe Andrew? ;)... or Angelo? (that's what it says on my passport anyway..)

I was supposed to be Ann Elizabeth, but my cousin born 3 months before me was named Elizabeth Ann. So my parents had to come up with another name

My parents were expecting a boy. They had always chosen Benjamin for a boy. When I came out a girl they were unprepared. An old country song called "Elvira" came on the radio and my dad thought it was a sign...My mom talked him out of that one. The other option was Genevieve.

My mom wanted to name me Alabama Lynn and would have called me Allie. My aunt talked her out of it, thank goodness! I'm pretty sure she said she liked Brandon for a boy.

If I was a boy I was going to be Edward and my backup girl name was Dawn. I like the way things turned out.

If I was a boy, I would have been James Michael. They had two names with the initials J.M. I like my name!

@MrsMcD: Yep, and I have a very Irish maiden name! And a very Scottish married name, lol.

Naomi
They were expecting a boy and called me "Pedro", they have Christmas cards from just before I was born addressed to Pedro.

My mom wanted to name me Chance if I was a boy. Yuck.
The other girl contenders were Shannon, Melody, Rachel, and Lauren.

My mom had 3 names picked out, my dad nixed all of them for various reasons; samantha(no daughter of my dads was going to be called Sam, a boys name), Elizabeth(he hated the nickname Lizzy), and Abigail(people would call me gabby Abby...)

Don't think they did, actually. Mum just "knew" it was going to be a girl, so they didn't pick out any boys name (same thing with my brother. Super lucky!). They used the top names they each liked. The big decision was which would be first and middle. My Mum won that one.

I was going to be Brian or David if I was a boy. My parents considered naming me Cheryl or Jennifer; it's hard to imagine being called either of those names.
@sweetiepie: You dodged a bullet with Elvira (my apologies to any bees with that name). Everyone would associate you with the Mistress of the Dark!
@rahlyrah: The other girl contenders are nice enough names, but your name fits you! Even if it's not what your DH calls you

I was almost Casey. But my maiden name started with a ca- sound and my mom thought that sounded too cutesy, like I'd be "doomed to be a cheerleader," in her words.
She said if they had gone with it they probably would've used the nickname Cece due to my initials (and to avoid the "ca" sound so much)

1982 ultrasound technology had me pegged as a boy so I was "Eric" until I was born!
ETA: It just occurred to me that they could have just gone with Erica. I wonder if they considered that

I was almost Bridget, that's the name they had picked out for a girl, but then they saw me and decided I didn't look like a Bridget!
ETA: I actually love the name Bridget, so I wouldn't have minded having it...

My dad wanted to name me Abigail and my mom wanted to name me Bernadette(!). I like Abigail, but not as much as my name. If I was a boy, I was going to be Adam or Stephen.

They wanted to name me Ronnie! The name I ended up with is still kind of dated-sounding, but not like that.

@sarbear: my husband has been nixing nearly all names I like for our future little one because of potential nicknames kids at school could come up with. It's annoying because I don't even believe in the use of nicknames. But kids do tease. Gees.
@IRunForFun: when I was a kid, I was so obsessed with the me Bridget. I named so many of my dolls Bridget. I even gave that name to my Go Go My Walking Pup.

My dad wanted to name me Emily- which I like and I think would've worked well (even though I love my name). If I was a boy I was going to be a junior soooo Timothy.

I was supposed to be a boy according to 1984 u/s technology, so it was going to be either Joseph or Joshua, I can't remember which now. But, for girls' names my mom liked Tiffany, Brittany, and Heather. My uncle said he'd call me "Tiffany Lampshade" if they wen't with that, and my mom's cousin named her daughter born a couple weeks before me Brittany. Then, I ended up being born with bright red hair (it fell out and grew back in white blonde later), and my parents, after keeping me nameless for a couple of days, decided on an Irish name to match the hair.

My moms picks were Abigail, Allison and Tonia. My dad vetoed all three.
