I'm not a big germaphobe, but the thought of my LO crawling on the ground in public places and then putting his hands in his mouth does gross me out a bit. I suppose there's no real way to prevent this unless I only let him reign free when he can walk, right? So, did you, and when, did you let your LO crawl around in public places? Did you clean their hands afterwards?

I let her crawl around anywhere at church, but that's about it.

Certain places, yes, but not like at WalMart or anything

I don't let her do it so I hold her or keep her strapped in her stroller!

There's a bookstore we go to sometimes that has a Children's room with a big floor mat and toys and such. That's about the only public place I've let him crawl. And our local library.

I let DS crawl around the library or other play areas. I just wash or sanitize his hands afterward.

I try not to let her do that because I'm a germaphobe too. But if she must (like at an indoor playground) I just wipe her up right away and wash her hands.

we have no choice. olive just started taking her first steps at 17 months. we let her crawl around at the playground all the time. but luckily she never really put things in her mouth.

I feel like when LO was in his crawling phase (which honestly only lasted a month), it was rare that we'd be out in a public place and not want him in his stroller or the Ergo or something like that for reasons totally separate from hygiene concerns. Like, if I'm going to the grocery store, I have stuff to do and I want LO contained. There weren't many public places we visited where we'd just be chilling in a single area for any length of time, you know?
But even once LO started walking, we were pretty lax about where he put his hands and when they went into his mouth. We definitely went to zoos and outdoor festivals and pick-your-own farms and museums and such and didn't wipe his hands after touching stuff that thousands of other people had been touching. -
I debated this at a mall yesterday when I was putting all my stuff together, but thought better of it!
Then again, he is in daycare and I'm pretty sure that the germs are worse there than in many public places!

I let him crawl wherever. If I didn't than he would FREAK out.... So I just clean his hands really well afterwards.
