Two new/coming soon movies from Disney have received PG ratings - Zootopia and Finding Dory. I wonder if that would sway anyone to not take their kids to see it since it's not rated G? Has your child watched PG movies? Which ones and were you comfortable with it or would you not see it if you had the chance to change your mind?

I haven't let my kid watch Finding Nemo, Lion King and a couple of others that I feel are a bit scary (she's extremely sensitive) so we probably wouldn't see either of the ones I mentioned above for a while. We haven't seen a movie in the theater (she will be 4 in June). I want a good, G-rated, low-scary/sexy-factor movie to come out so we can all go see a movie together!

Movies are still too scary for my 4 year old. I know a lot of it depends on the kid, but i think movies are different from tv shows...there is something too real and fast-paced about movies that make it a little overwhelming for some kids. She saw Frozen and Cinderella and was scared watching both of it on a small screen.
I probably won't take her to the theatre until she's 5 or 6. I personally like commonsensemedia.org and like their guidelines.

It depends on the movie. DD watches several movies that have scary scenes - Mulan, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast , Snow White (that one is seriously creepy in some parts!!) and it doesn't phase her in the least. She actually likes the scary scenes best, lol. So I'm sure she'll be fine at Finding Dory. I was thinking of making it her first movie theatre experience actually

Yes, I guess I don't mind. We took them to see Zootopia in the theater and they did fine.

I think it depends on the movie for me. I found a copy of Snow White and let her watch it... I didn't remember it being that scary!
I'm definitely more protective about it now, because she is so sensitive to those things.

hmmm. LO is pretty sensitive, especially to scary things, but we all loved Zootopia so much we saw it twice in the theaters.
We are planning on seeing Finding Dory in the theater too.
I guess my answer would be that it depends on the movie. I don't expect any movie (G-rated included) to not be scary at all. Lots of the old Disney G-rated movies have scary parts or scary messages. Plus, LO doesn't yet weigh enough to hold down a movie theater seat, so she sits in my lap anyway, and she just snuggles into me if she gets scared.

PG are fine for us. He doesn't get scared by TV or movies.

I think it depends on the movie/child. I don't really take ratings into consideration, but my son is extremely sensitive so he gets scared by G movies. At this point, he's not even that interested in watching movies, so it's not something I'm terribly concerned with.

We're pretty relaxed about that stuff. The only time he's gotten scared was when we got a little too far into Jurassic Park, he loved the dinosaurs... until the car got picked up

Fine with us but my kids don't get scared. But I mean they want to watch 'clown movie' (scary rated R movie) when they walk by it at the movie rental store...so...
We obviously don't let them watch that kind of stuff but PG is perfectly fine.

My LO isn't scared of anything, haha. We took her to see the Jungle Book and I found it scary myself and she was mostly fine (didn't cry or anything, but she found it slightly scary/exciting)

We started with some at home that we've seen and we can skip if needed.

Depends on the movie. Our son LOVES Harry and the Hendersons and we've watched it on tv together. Then we got the DVD and it actually has a lot of bad language in it so we stopped letting him watch it.

@mediagirl: I was thinking about this recently. I don't think they make anything but PG movies anymore. I can only think of one recent G movie (Peanuts). Everything is designed to entertain adults and kids so you get the PG rating.
To answer your question I was planning on taking her to Finding Dory and The Secret Life of Pets.

Depends on the movie. We did take LO to see Zootopia and will take her to Finding Dory, though.

For my LO, I'm fine with it. F loves being scared, she thinks it's super exciting, so I'm not concerned with that at all.

I just let Xander watch Minions. I didn't realize it was PG until I just looked it up now because of this thread, so I guess we're okay with it!

Totally depends on the kid. We try to screen what DS watches pretty tightly lately. He's 4, and has an intense imagination as well as being pretty sensitive. He gets scared easily these days, so most PG is pushing it. We'll definetly see Finding Dory, though.

I let my 4 year old watch the new Star Wars movie which was pg-13 rated. I saw it first and determined he would be ok watching it. He loves the originals. We showed him princess bride. And he loved zootopia. He says he's scared but often isn't truly scared.
I will introduce my daughter to Star Wars around the same time but I don't know what she will be able to handle.

DS will be 4 in August and has only seen Frozen (once while we were visiting friends). I monitor his screen time very closely as he has a very active imagination and tends to act out what he watches on t.v., so we are waiting to introduce him to any movies at this point.

I took my 2 year old to Zootopia. It really wasn't scary. He's seen movies with scary parts and they don't seem to bother him so I don't have a problem with it.

I didn't even realize Zootopia was PG, it could have been G in my mind. My daughter is 3 1/2 and does fine so I don't mind PG for her.

My two year old doesn't seem scared, he watches Star Wars and Avengers all the time, so I am fine with PG as long as I've seen it first and feel comfortable with him watching it. I do think when he gets older and connects what is happening in movies with real life more, that maybe he will be scared/affected, but right now he seems fine. He likes Nemo so maybe he will want to see Finding Dory!
