i just made it to persimmon status -- yay! 
which got me thinking about actual persimmons. do you like them? i don't...the texture is so weird to me -- both when ripe and not ripe. my parents grew up with them since they grow lots of them in korea, but i've never been able to acquire the taste for them. how bout you?

@mrbee: thanks! i think all old koreans love persimmons. it's hit or miss with the 2nd generation, i think. my parents have been trying to grow a persimmon tree for the last two years...it's a hilariously sad little tree.

@travelingbrit: my mom slices the harder ones like apples and eats the soft ones like you'd eat a soft plum, but without the skin. i heard that in the south (US) people make pies with them?

I tried one for the first time a week ago... it was disgusting. It was so chalky, I felt like my mouth was glueing together. I think something was wrong though-- the chef we were with tossed them. What should it taste like?

I love persimmons. I like the crunchy ones the best. I'm slightly allergic though so I can't eat too many.

the harder ones are almost like raw yams. i think. the softer ones are super fleshy (almost like a fig?) and so sickly sweet!

I used to like them! But the past few times I've had it (most recently on Thanksgiving), it gave me a fuzzy tongue, so I don't think I like them anymore

Congrats on Persimmon status! I am weird, I only like the sections inside the mushy kind, if that makes sense? I also remember like the mushy kind - dehydrated when I was little. But it's been years since I've had any.

I love persimmons! But one time I let an entire Costco-sized box go bad b/c I was just too tired to ever peel it to eat it. Yay to persimmon status though!

I grew up eating both crunchy and mushy persimmons. If I had to choose, I'd say I like the mushy kind better. I had persimmon sorbet once... it was pretty bomb!
