Probably one of my biggest flaws is that I like to help people. I say flaws because, sometimes afterward I wish I had invested that time in myself instead. I have trouble not helping someone in need though, because I'm a moron.
Do you like to help people? How has that worked out for you?

@mrbee: When you say you like to help people, do you typically mean friends/family/people you know? Or random strangers in need? just curious! I always admire "good Samaritans" who help strangers, like changing tires on the highway or something.

I like to help, especially with family. I've more recently become a "you get what you give" type person so now I draw the line with some people.

We like to help people too. I just don't have the time to recently but my husband still volunteers once a week at a homeless shelter. My husband has recently become our block's videophone game guru. He gave our neighbors some tips last week and now they come around every day looking for my husband. It's cute at first but now they're knocking on our door at 10pm sometimes!

@mrbee: I'm glad you like to help people.... otherwise my LO wouldn't have had a place to sleep for the first night we were in NY!
I've had to learn to put myself first. I like to help people if I can, but if it's going to be too stressful or somehow cause a migraine, I have to say no. I used to not say no, but DH has helped me to realize that I need to, and if the people don't understand, then I don't want to help them anyway.

I like to help people in areas I'm experienced in. I also like helping people in acts of kindness (holding doors, telling cars that I'm leaving and that they can follow me to my parking spot, etc.).
I have learned, though, that there are a lot of selfish people who abuse peoples' kindness so yeah, if it takes too much out of me or is too inconvenient, then I just mind my own business.

The hubby is the same way! He loves to help everyone and anyone and it gets him in trouble sometimes (nothing legally). I help when I can and like @Rubies: I constantly perform acts of kindness though!
