So, I'm curious. I've seen a few times in birthday time posts people list that they have church Sunday morning so timing around that is preferable.
If you go to church weekly (or very regularly) would you RSVP no to a birthday party if it was during the time you typically go for a religious service? Does it depend on how close you are to the birthday boy/girl?

I would skip the birthday party to go to church, yes. I would have to be really close - like my dad or something - to go to a party over church.

I would just rearrange my schedule. I can choose a different time to go to church (8am or 5pm on Saturday night), so I would still go to birthday party if it was on a Sunday. I usually go to 10am mass though.

I think we would try to work it out but it would depend on how much we wanted to go. We usually attend 9 am mass and haven't been invited to anything that early. We did have a 10:30 Sunday party recently so we just went there right after mass. We did lo's 4th birthday this year on a Sunday 11-1 due to DH's schedule. We have one guest come late after Sunday school but they were not very late.

Following. We just scheduled LO's birthday party for 10-12 on Sunday and I'm concerned about this. I asked DCP if she had any idea who attends church but she didn't know. She said she would ask everyone. Eek. I asked her to please not do that but I bet she still will.
I don't expect anyone to miss services for the party at all. Other times just didn't work for us.

Interesting! Never occurred to me but I bet that's why 11-1 is a common party offering time for venues.

I'm not a regular churchgoer, but DH is and he just goes to a different service if something interferes. He normally goes to 8am mass, so it's not often that things are scheduled that early anyway.

We would try to go to an alternate Mass if it were someone we were really close to, but the other times (5:30pm and 9am) are tough. They're always crabby at the evening one, and the other is at the same time as DD2's morning nap. If push came to shove, we'd prioritize church.

We wouldn't be able to attend a party during church time, but our service is 9-10am, so I think it won't usually be an issue.

No we wouldn't miss church! We Have gone to a different service for once in a lifetime events for close friends or family like a wedding or graduation.. But not parties

Most of our friends & family attend church so it's not an issue for us. I don't think I've ever been invited to anything on a Sunday morning actually (and I've lived in the Northeast & Southwest, so, not the Bible Belt or anything).
My church service is 10-12 and there are no options for other service times since we are a smaller church.
So, overall, yes I'd skip the birthday party to go to church. They'd have to be very close family or best friends for me to choose the party over church.

@pinkcupcake: oh, I have no idea. But I'm going for 11-1 because I think it makes the most sense for our immediate family and friends. And most likely aiming for Saturday but only because it's more convenient if my family does come up for the party. No one in our immediate circle are church goers.

@DesertDreams88: I just went to a 11-1 party a few months ago. Almost all venues in my area have 11-1 as a time slot. We're in NY State.

It might be a regional thing, too. In the Northeast, there are less churchgoers and if people are churchgoers, it's usually Catholic mass which is shorter and has more options for times.

If a party was during the church service we usually go to, we would probably just watch it online later or forgo altogether.

We would try to go to another service, but we usually go to 9 am Mass. If coming late were an option, we might try that, too. Otherwise, we'd RSVP no.
