I don't particularly have the time to but I think I would like to. I know for our school, there's a $5 per person entry fee and then meetings once a month. Have you ever participated? What do they discuss? Was it worth you carving out time from your family/busy schedule to attend?

I just joined D's school's pto. I didn't join any of them before. They have the first meeting the 16th and there's no membership fee. I'll let you know what I think!

I don't now - it seems like the parents that are involved have older kids. DH volunteered for the book fair and was not only the only dad but the only parent from LO's class! And we were the only parents from her class to go to open house. So I feel like it would be weird now but definitely when she is older, assuming she still goes there.

@daniellemybelle: We were encouraged at class orientation to sign up, have a voice by the teacher. And a few parents especially want me to participate since I'm not only on the toddler side but the elementary, as a teacher aide/parent volunteer.

We don't have a PTO. I am a room Mom with another Mom.

Our daycare doesn't do pta. I don't think I'll be on it at school, too much politics.

Our daycare doesn't have one. I think I will be on it when our kids are in school though. I think it's important to have a voice.

@Mrs. Grizzly Bear: organize who brings what to class parties and gets the money from parents for teacher gifts (Christmaz, bday's, teacher appreciation, etc).

I think most parents at our school join the PTA ($7). Whether you actually volunteer is a different story. I just got the flyer home and there are lots of jobs that you could do. Such as run copies for teachers, help count boxtops for education, organize luncheons, judge science fair, etc. I think the meetings are helpful sometimes because they talk about what is happening in the school (I have not been to one yet though). I plan to attend at least a few.

I'm the room mom. Even with working full time, it is fine, it isn't that much of a time commitment.

Our daycare didn't have anything, but now that we're in preschool, there is a PTA of sorts. I've volunteered, but have yet to be called for anything.
I think it's really important, I don't have any aspirations to be the president of the PTA (since we're only there for this year), but I will always be involved in my son's school, especially in his classroom, as much as the teacher wants!

DS is still young (13 months), but depending on my work load when he enters grade school, I'm interested in being a room mom or something like that. I'd love to be involved in his school activities!

I really want to be involved in school activities and be an active PTA member but it will all depend on work schedule. Teachers need all the help they can get and fundraising for the school and classroom activities is very important too.

Last night was the PTO meeting. No dues, because they really need volunteers. In a school of about 500 kids, only NINE parents showed up! We talked a bit about fundraisers, giving teachers duty free lunches and the spring carnival. I learned a lot and I'm glad I went.
