I get a lot of them from my annoying coworker and they drive me crazy!! A lot of his emails that require receipts are like....I might be 5 mins late coming back from lunch or do you think I should bring Lysol for the office. Who cares!!!!

Ugh, I hate read receipts. I wouldn't respond to emails like that and if he asked about it I'd say I was busy and maybe he'd get the hint. Maybe he doesn't know he has read receipts switched on?

@mrbee: After I read the email, a pop up comes up in Outlook that asks me to hit yes I read the email...or you can just close it.

I never send back read receipts just to spite people!

@Andrea: Seriously! He is socially awkward...lol! But he is generous and brings always brings food into the office so I will tolerate it!

I never send back the receipts! It bothers me that people think I would be unprofessional enough not to read their emails.

Is it bad that whenever someone requests a read receipt I decline? sometimes I don't want to or can't answer them right away....

My insuranse agent is the only one who uses them, and they annoy me. What if I don't want to e-mail back yet?! I feel so pressured!

I bet he has a default where he requests a read receipt on all emails- I would ignore a good chunk of them. I do occasionally request them for work purposes when I need to track things, but if it's not important I ignore them.

@prettylizy: No, he is just annoying and thinks those are important emails! LOL. His emails that are actually about work don't require read receipts.

I never respond to them! I don't get them in my current position, but at my old work I always did. SO annoying!

@autumnlove: seriously?!! Do you work with Dwight Shrute?
I would never respond to those emails and just drive him crazy thinking that you didn't read or receive them.

I usually reply to them. There's only person at my company who sends them religiously but it doesn't bother me - he only sends important correspondence.
I would, however, like to send read receipts on my outgoing mail because I really feel most of my e-mails are ignored and deleted (I'm in Finance...hated department, of course). I would send them but I don't want to be more hated

Those are annoying!!! I usually just close them out and don't even respond. Those receipts flood your inbox if people do respond. Why in the world would you want that?? Do you not get enough emails as is??? lol

Absolutely not. I purposely and spitefully decline to send read receipts every single time. They are so annoying!

@ladyfingers: Haahahha. Yes. Same. I despise them and close them/X out in hopes that it makes the sender mad. I am the queen of passive aggressiveness...

i hate read receipts. HATE. Only when they are VERY important and from my boss do I think they are ok

Confession: When I first started using read receipts, I had never actually received one, so I didn't think it required action from the recipient, or even that they knew about it. I thought the email could just "tell" it had been read! So I used them all the time until I figured it out! I'm pretty sure I actually didn't get a job interview because I used one on an email job application... stupid!

No, I hate these. It's all I can do not to lecture the people who request these. What I hate most is that in my google-based work email, every time I look at an old email for which a read receipt was requested and I didn't send it, the request comes up all over again! Even if I responded to the person. Argh!!!
