I do, when there is food stuck to the dishes. Someone once told me that it was a waste of time, but I stand by it!
Do you rinse or scrub dishes by hand before putting them into the dishwasher?

Yes. I guess it's a waste of time if you have a fancy schmancy dishwasher.... but with ours you need to or the dishes don't get clean enough.

@Maysprout: Ewwwww!
We rinse our dishes before they go into the dishwasher! Although with pots and pans that have stuff stuck to them, I let them soak in water for a bit first.

@Maysprout: haha, I don't know! I don't have dogs, so it just seems gross.

Our dishwasher isn't powerful enough to clean the dishes without a pre-wash from us in the sink. Sometimes I try to be lazy and skip the pre-wash step, and then they come out of the dishwasher still dirty.

Nope, not unless there is still a ton of food on them. Our dishwasher is brand new though. We also let our dog "pre-rinse" as we load the dishwasher!

Yes, we do. A lot of times if we don't, it'll come out with stuff still somewhat on it. We'd rather just take the time to kind of get anything that's stuck off of the plate first.

Cheese or oatmeal or sticky things like that get a scrub. Most everything gets a good rinse before going in. I don't put pots and pans in the dishwasher so they all get scrubbed or soaked in Bon Ami (the BEST!)

I rinse if there are chunks of food stuck on them!

yep, we have to pre-rinse or they don't come out clean. Esp if during the week and it is just me, takes all week to load it up.

Yes. I don't expect dishwashers to scrub my dishes for me...we have a really nice dishwasher and it still leaves flecks of food behind if we're not careful.

I rinse them first, but hubby's all about scrubbing them down. I think that's a waste of time. Might as well hand wash it by that point!

I rinse but don't scrub. If it requires a scrub I usually just hand wash at that point.

@highwire: same here!! I've tried not scrubbing my dishes, but then there's still food on the dishes when they come out of the dishwasher.
Time for a new dishwasher?!

@Alivoo01: I really value the high heat applied by the dishwasher... especially since I eat my eggs runny and worry about stuff like salmonella.
For me, the dishwasher is for disinfecting the dishes with heat and steam!

Our dishwasher doesn't get them clean enough if we don't, so yes. We scrub them first.

Ours is new, so it would probably be okay without a rinse, but smells realllllllllllly freak me out so I rinse everything first so the dishwasher doesn't smell when I open it! Ah I could gag just thinking about it.
